It’s time to get creative and have fun with our costumes as Halloween approaches. We’ve created four unique and sweet-themed ideas to inspire any candy lover’s Halloween look. Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins It’s impossible to trick or treat without getting Reese’s—unless you are allergic. They are one of the most popular Halloween candies, so we had to create a costume inspired by them. Cow Tales Cow Tales always leave you wanting MOOre, so we decided to make our second costume inspiration based on the iconic caramel and creme candy. M&M’s M&M’s marketing campaigns and packaging feature their adorable spokes candies,...

As opposed to earlier years, manufacturers require wholesalers to place our Halloween orders in February—yes, nine months—making forecasting challenging. That said, below is a list of our Halloween Candy offerings 2024. Feel free to contact us if you want to pre-order for September delivery or add your name at the product level to receive an email notifying you that the candy is in stock! Everything indicates that Halloween will be...
We love all types of candy, from classic ones to novelty ones! Some novelty candies are unique and become more than just a sweet treat; they become a sweet experience. Our two new candies, Gummi Fries & Strawberry Ketchup and Scrambled Gummy Sizzlers, are examples of precisely that. When I first saw our new candies, I was filled with excitement. I couldn't wait to taste their unique flavors and experience the fun they promised. The first one I tried was the Scrambled Gummy Sizzlers, which was a delight from start to finish. With these gummy eggs, I was extremely curious...
Did you know that April 5th is National Caramel Day? Although its origins are unknown, they date back to ancient civilizations. Now, caramel is a timeless staple of the sweets industry. Caramel is made by melting white sugar to a rich, decadent consistency, and depending on that consistency, the production process changes. Caramel comes in many forms, from sauce to hard and soft caramels and even caramel filling, each with its own unique charm and flavor. First, we have the classic caramels, including Werther's and our classic Vanilla Caramel Squares. Vanilla caramel creams are also very popular caramel candy, just...

Brach's Candy has been part of our Easter offerings since we opened our doors in 1927.
We were the first - yes, the FIRST - to offer their wholesale candy, and over the years, we have seen too many of their classic candies come and go. Gone are the days of the beloved Marshmallow Hunt Egg and White Fiesta Malt Eggs!
The good news is that we still offer their Jelly Beans, Pastel Fiesta Malt Gggs, and other fun stuff, too!
A couple of weeks ago, we showed you what it would be like to live in a world made of candy, our dream world. Afterward, we wondered what living in a house full of candy would look like. To do this, just like how we created a world of candy, we used Midjourney, an AI photo generator, to think up the house of our dreams. Trust me, this will be the SWEETEST house tour you have ever taken! The outside of the house is made up of an assortment of candies, everything from bubble gum to an assortment of hard...
It goes without saying that the classic Kit Kat Candy Bar is delicious! It has long been one of our favorite classic candies. In recent years, Kit Kat has expanded from their classic line to include new and exciting flavors. So, I decided to test some out and introduce you to others. First, I was so intrigued by the new Kit Kat flavors that I needed to try a new one. I was also intrigued by the Birthday Cake Kit Kat because I love birthday cake! This is the only Kit Kat in our lineup that I hadn’t tried, so...
Many people have discussed how AI is the future of technology and our world. To test this, I experimented with mid-journey, an AI photo generator, to see if it could create the future we all want to see here at CandyFavorites: a world made entirely of candy. Now, only some of the images created are great or even close to the candy world of my dreams, but I was able to make a town full of candy, and here it is. First, when you enter the city, candy trees, and castles topped with sweet treats greet you. Eventually, as you...

For Valentine's Day, people often give flowers and chocolate. While those are great gifts, especially the chocolate, we have some new creative ideas, especially for some foodies. This Valentine's Day, we have both the Kraft Assorted Friendship Exchange Gummies Box and a Kraft Gummy Lunchable Pizza Kit Heart Box. Both of these feature gummies that are extremely delicious and realistic, too. I had to test whether they fit for Valentine's Day. First, I tried all the candies inside the Kraft Assorted Friendship Exchange Gummies box, including Kraft Mac & Cheese gummies, Oscar Mayer Hot Dog gummies, and Claussen Pickle gummies....

At Candyfavorites.com, we give THANKS to the many generations of loyal customers who have helped to make us America's OLDEST Wholesale Candy Company.
We wish you and yours only happiness and health this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season!
Candy to us is more than just a sweet treat. It's more than just chocolate, gummies, or hard candies. Candy, to us, is about RELATIONSHIPS. Relationships between our family and friends, between us and our customers, and us and the candy business we work with. In hard times, we give candies to our loved ones to show them encouragement. On holidays, we use candy to show people we love them. Best of all, whenever we need a pick-me-up, we grab some candy to help make our days better. When I was younger and had had a long day at school,...
My favorite thing about M&M's is the candy's personality, partly due to their sweet "spokescandies." In honor of National M&M's Day on October 12th, let’s learn a little about each spokescandy. First, we have RED. Red represents regular Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Crispy M&M's. Red is best known for his egotistical nature but also for being a perfectionist. Red has existed since the beginning of M&M's spokescandies in the 1990s. Overall, Red is sarcastic and self-centered and always steals the show whenever possible. If we had to guess, his horoscope sign would be an LEO. Then there...
Candy is subjective and our blogger Hannah shares her opinion about Thrillist's list of Top Ten Halloween Candies Trick-or-treating was one of my favorite things when I was younger, and I still love it today! Even better, I loved returning and trading all my favorite candies with my friends. It was the sweetest day of the year and has been for decades! I would always trade certain candies for others, trying to create the best bag of candy. However, I would like to know if my taste aligns with the most popular Halloween candies as ranked by Thrillist. Reese's Cups...

With $1 billion sold in global ticket sales, the Barbie movie has broken records and has inspired everyone from all over to choose just about everything in pink, including candy. While the movie, on the surface, is about a favorite childhood toy, it has a much deeper and sweeter meaning. I saw the movie the weekend it came out. The movie theater was packed; of course, my crew and I were dressed head to toe in pink! Ever since the movie, pink has been my favorite color. I wear pink. I drink pink. I eat pink. I am pink. I’m...
How did you "sweeten" your Taylor Swift Experience? Taylor Swift has been part of the music scene since her debut album 2006. With each album, she introduced a new side of her life, further exposing her sheer talent. After publishing her album Midnights and continuing to re-release her music so she could have the rights to her own music, Swift announced her Eras Tour, which has quickly become a global sensation. The Eras Tour is characterized by her musical journey through each of her albums. This tour has changed the word "era" and what being a Taylor Swift fan means....
Almost 100 years after the real California Gold Rush, The Hoffman Candy Company created another kind of gold rush but this time, an extra sweet one. The Cup-O-Gold candy bar came out in the 1950s from the Hoffman Candy Company, which invented all kinds of chocolate delicacies in the 1930s. While the Hoffman Candy Company doesn’t produce Cup-O-Golds anymore, there are still efforts today to preserve their old building as a historical and cultural monument. The Hoffman Candy Company was one of the earliest family-operated candy companies in Los Angeles, making history both within the city and the candy world....
This week, we will be humbled to celebrate the 96th birthday of McKeesport Candy Co., established in 1927, the Oldest Wholesaler Candy Company in the nation and the partner of CandyFavorites.com, the Internet's First Online Candy Store. Jon H.Prince / President When my grandfather created the company in 1927 and passed it to my father in the 1950s, little could they imagine that the company would continue to grow and be as relevant today, maybe even more so, as it was decades prior. We have worked hard to stay true to our founding principles of providing excellent customer service and competitive prices as...
Summer's not without hikes, sunscreen, swimming pools, and snacks. The best summer snack of all is trail mix. The best part of the trail mix is the candy. I always pick it out and eat it first. It's one of my worst habits, but I can't help myself. It's the best part. I had to put together the perfect trail mix to celebrate summertime. Everyone has different tastes, so my ideal mix will differ from yours. However, there is a recipe that everyone can follow to create their perfect combination. The perfect trail mix starts with a good base consisting...
Chances are, if you are reading this, you most likely inquired about a product that was discontinued and is no longer available for purchase despite our greatest wishes. The disappointment someone feels when they find out their favorite candy is discontinued - sadly, something all too common these days - can be unmatched. After all, when companies discontinue their products, we can lose parts of our childhood, our favorite foods, and our memories. While it can seem nonsensical that your favorite candy is discontinued, there are many reasons a company either decides to or has to discontinue an item that, in some...

We're delighted to announce that Fudgie Wudgie Fudge is again available at CandyFavorites.com! The company is under new management, and their fudge is better than ever. Share your favorite candy memories below and have a chance of winning an entire box of your favorite candy! In honor of National Candy Month, my favorite month of the year, I reflected on all that candy has given me in my life. While many people see candy as a sweet treat, it is more than that. It has given me many smiles and also many memories. My favorite candy, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (which I am sure many of you know already), is my favorite for a reason. Yes, it tastes fantastic. Yes, it has an outstanding balance between...
Can you think of anything better than your favorite candy bars mixed with your favorite ice cream? While I love candy, my favorite dessert is ice cream. I think that candy and ice cream combinations have the potential to make the best flavors by adding two sweets together to make a better one. Making your ice cream with the new Ninja Creami has also been popular on social media, so I wanted to try it myself. My family recently bought a Ninja Creami, so I thought, what’s better than trying it and following the trends but adding a candy twist? ...
The second I heard the words "candy" and "salad" next to each other, I knew I would be into it Look out, Julia Childs! While I am not the biggest fan of salads, I am the biggest fan of candy! Scrolling on Tik Tok one day, I encountered people mixing various candies and calling it a salad. I was intrigued by the different candy combinations and this innovation in candy consumption. After hours of research (scrolling on Tik Tok), I couldn't resist trying this trend. While many videos combine different kinds of candy, such as gummies, sour candies, and chocolate,...
As a candy lover, there should be no doubt that I have my own opinions about candy, and over the past year and a half, I have fallen in love with reviewing candies and offering my perspective. I realize that many other people have different opinions than me. My favorite candy is Reese's, and I will always go for chocolate. However, I understand that many people do not share this same opinion. I have always loved M&M's too, which made me want to create this ranking of some of their current flavors on the market. If I ranked these flavors...
Recently we heard a rumor that Pixy Stix could be discontinued shortly. While we are still determining the validity of this rumor or what is happening with them, we will continue to update you all as we learn more. Of course, we will also continue to sell them as long as possible. You only know how good you have it once you lose it.... That saying can undoubtedly be true for Pixy Stix and my relationship with the sugary candy. I have never been one to love Pixy Stix because I am much more of a chocolate lover. However, since...
Share your favorite way to eat candy, and the best entry will win a box of their favorite sweets! When it comes to eating candy, there are various ways that people enjoy their favorite sweets. Many celebrities have their opinions on the issue. For example, Kourtney Kardashian views the proper way to eat a Kit Kat: to eat all the chocolate from the wafer and then eat the crispy wafer by itself. With almost any candy, you can choose to eat it in multiple different ways. The standard method is just taking a bite of the candy and throwing it...
Learn about how supply chain issues are causing candy shortages on popular Easter candy in this featured interview on WTAE-TV Pittsburgh. Don't worry though, we are still able to source hard to find Easter candy as well as other highly sought-after sweets.

CALLING ALL SELF-PROCLAIMED CANDY EXPERTS!
We love anything retro, so we thought a fun trivia game would be to match some of America's favorite candy bars with the year they were introduced!
Over the years, our wholesale company, McKeesport Candy Co., was among the first candy companies to offer all of these products!

It would be hard to imagine Easter without Jelly Beans....but it is possible! Each candy has a time in the year when it's "in season," almost like fruit. Instead of growing conditions, we have taste bud conditions. While every candy can be eaten in any season and still be delicious, there are certain times of the year when the candy tastes even better. For example, it might feel odd to eat a candy cane in the summer unless you are celebrating Christmas in July, and while eating jelly beans in any other season than spring wouldn't feel wrong, it just...
CandyFavorites is proud to present three fun and whimsical products from Kidsmania, one of our favorite novelty candy manufacturers - Llama Doo, Unicorn Doo, and Dino Doo. These three candy "poopers" are perfect for a conversation starter or for someone who is looking for a good laugh, as the creatures are as adorable as the candy is delicious. They surely offer a new take on a candy dispenser! A Llama with a rainbow mane is a rarity, but that is just. one more reason why Llama Doo is a winner. Llama Doo is an adorable tan llama with a rainbow...
My Controversial Takes on Candy As a candy blogger and self-professed lover of almost all things sweet, I have my takes on what candy bars are "good" and which are "bad." Still, of course, these opinions are my own, as candy is very subjective! People can be chocolate lovers, gummi fanatics, or just love a mix of everything. I am a chocolate lover, but not exclusively. Of course, occasionally, I enjoy an excellent gummy or sour treat. My favorite candy is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, precisely their Big Cup. Throughout my life, I have learned that some of my takes...
As we close out this year with the holidays, we wanted to thank our customers and members of the Candy Favorites family. It is no secret that this year has had its challenges with candy shortages, but there has also been so much sweet joy that has come with this year. We could not have had a successful year without your support. We started the year in January by extending our bagged candy selection opinions and getting Old Dominion Peanut Blocks and Reese's popcorn in stock. Unfortunately, in February, we had a shortage of Valentine's Day candies, but we unveiled...
One of my favorite parts of the holidays is gingerbread houses. I make at least one every year, and usually, my family participates in the annual Pittsburgh Gingerbread House competition. We use every candy known to man to construct a masterpiece, and it never turns out to be a classic gingerbread house or a house at all. Still, it doesn’t have to be for the competition. When we first started the competition, we built a giant Rubber Ducky out of Candy and Rice Krispy treats. A GIANT Rubber ducky made of Candy and Rice Krispies! The following year we created...
Celebrate the 94th Birthday of one of the most popular candy flavor combinations of all time! With the most profound pleasure, I announce that today, November 15, 2022, is the 94th birthday of the beloved Reese's Peanut Butter Cup! Ninety-four years ago, on this very day, Harry Burnett Reese invented this peanut butter and chocolate delight in his basement. Reese was a former employee of The Hershey Company and left to start his own business, which eventually bought his candy in 1963 and sells it today. Although Mr.Reesesold the company back to Hershey, it's safe to say that his candy...
Candy Canes are still in short supply so we encourage you to order early! We see many elements of the holiday season as vital—for example, ice skating, decorating, baking, cooking, spreading kindness, and candy canes. Candy Canes symbolize the holiday season; seeing them in any other season is strange, but ironically, they sell year-round. They are used to decorate trees in baking and add flavor to our holiday season, and some even crush them to use as garnish for a cocktail or topping for baked goods. Candy Canes being such a crucial element to the holidays also means they hold...
It is hard to believe that 2022 has two months left. It seems like yesterday that we were enjoying summer and, blink, now it is November! Halloween was the closest it has been to "normal" in the past few years, and supply chain issues seem to be resolving, albeit slowly. We have a vast selection of Christmas Candy, including an ample supply of Candy Canes in high demand due to a nationwide shortage of Peppermint Oil. This list features nonseasonal items, and we will be adding to it weekly. As always, if you need custom packaging or are looking for...
We are excited that our 2022 Holiday Candy Selection is the largest it has been in several years! Our selection will allow you to stock up on all of your stocking stuffers, whether the recipient is naughty or nice! We have a healthy supply of candy canes. Still, we encourage you to order early as supplies are limited, especially for miniature candy canes, due to an ongoing nationwide shortage of Peppermint Oil. It never ends... There are several fun bulk items and lots of cute novelty candies too! If you are interested in custom packaging or large quantities or would...
It is hard to believe that there will be a candy cane shortage in 2022! Can you imagine a holiday season without candy canes? That's like asking if you could imagine Halloween without Pumpkins, Thanksgiving without Turkey - unless you are a vegetarian or vegan - the 4th of July without Fireworks, or Easter without Jelly Beans! It may sound improbable, even impossible, but the shortage of Peppermint Oil continues, and Candy Canes are almost impossible to find, especially the beloved miniature ones! According to industry insiders, production is down by over 25 percent! YIKES! After searching high and low,...
Celebrate with us through October 14th with a special discount on all M&M's products on CandyFavorites.com Happy National M&M's Day! Yes, you read the title correctly! October 13th is National M&M's Day, a sure day to celebrate! Being an M&M's lover, I knew I had to celebrate as soon as I discovered that there was a specific day set aside to celebrate one of the most famous candies ever created! In anticipation, I took a trip to the M&M's store in New York City. I won't lie, I was already going to New York City, and this seemed like a...
Efrutti offers three new fruit-flavored gummi candies! As a kid, I went to my brother's baseball games. I remember more of the concession stand than I do of the actual games themself. I would buy sunflower seeds and, of course, Efrutti Gummi "meals ."They are a core memory from my childhood, just looking at a pack of them in a candy store sends me back. All of them were sweet and about 25 times smaller than the actual foods. It's been years since these delicious little gummi treats entered my mouth, but now I've...

This summer marks our 95th year and third generation of ownership. This landmark is something our founder might not have envisioned when the company was founded in 1927. We are proud to be the OLDEST wholesale candy company in the nation and were the FIRST candy company to offer products for purchase online. We have long believed that "the future of candy is rooted in the past."To learn more about our storied history, please click here. While we are quite proud of our accomplishments and longevity, this would not be possible without our loyal customers. In honor of America's birthday month, which happens to coincide with ours - McKeesport Candy Co. is 95 years young this July and holds the distinction of being the OLDEST Wholesale Candy Company in the nation - I thought I would write about some of our favorite candies and how I feel about them. This holiday got me thinking about our country, and of course, my sweet connections made me think about what candies best represent our country. To determine which candies represent America, I researched a list of the most sold candies in the United States. To no surprise, I knew...
Frick Park Market pays tribute to its storied past! "ANYTHING YOU NEED, YOU CAN FIND IT AT THE MARKET" A line from Mac Miller's song called "Frick Park Market" An essential part of who we are at Candy Favorites is where we are from, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is known for its bridges, rivers, some of its sports teams, and local talent, including the late musician/rapper Mac Miller. Mac Miller's debut album, Blue Slide Park, gives a sense of him and his life growing up in Pittsburgh. He named a song after one place in Pittsburgh, Frick Park Market, located within...
Dubble Bubble Bubble Gum is America's Best Selling Bubble Gum! Dubble Bubble Bubble Gum Something about bright pink bubbles and the popping sounds just transports me to summer. Maybe it's their sweet flavor, or it's the act of blowing the bubble itself, but bubble gum is the perfect summer treat. Mint gum reminds me more of winter and the cold breezes that come with it, but classic pink bubble gum reminds me of all the sweetness that summer offers. These delightful chewy pink squares are America's Best Selling Bubble Gum for a reason, the pure joy it brings to people....

As a senior in high school, one thing I have been most looking forward to is my prom, something I didn't get to participate in last year because of the pandemic. Last year when I wasn't able to go, it broke my heart since it is a staple part of the high school experience, so this year I decided to make it extra sweet with some help from CandyFavorites. This event seemed like it was just the thing that needed to be sweetened up with a bit of our candy. So when I talked to Jon Prince, the company President,...

Novelty Candy is returning to our shelves...and hopefully yours! Out with the old and with the new may have been the battle cry of the candy industry a few years ago. Still, after two-plus years of supply chain issues, most of us would be satisfied with a combination of both! Although new candies are trickling slowly ( stay tuned, as we have a new product listing going up in a matter of days), we are happy to announce that the following novelty candies have returned to our shelves. However, as supplies are still limited, we are unsure how long the...

Here we have a battle of the rings, not quite the competitions you watched on the television with the Olympics. But they do represent the three latest additions to our CandyFavorites Bag Candy Line. The five Olympic Rings represent the union of the five continents and their athletes in one event. These rings represent their own meeting for a competition. Oh, did I mention this is a gummi ring taste testing? These new gummi ring flavors are going for Gold! Today, our contestants are Andrea Apple, Berry Blue Raspberry, and Wanda Watermelon. Few will deny that Haribo is the Gold Standard by which all Gummi Candies are measured, so to those of you that agree, we offer our sympathy. Meet Hannah, a Girl with a Serious Sweet Tooth! Hi, I am Hannah Brelsford, a senior in high school at Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh, PA who loves sugar. I have always been the girl to eat sugary sweet icing until I feel sick in my stomach, the girl to always pick chocolate over gummies, and to always suggest stopping for dessert on the way home. So I guess it’s safe to say I LOVE SWEETS. Would I self-diagnose myself as a sweet connoisseur? That’s a hard question to answer. I would say I am a...
My favorite candy is Reese’s. I can’t resist the glorious cups that melt into my mouth and always have me reaching for another one to unwrap. Each time a new Reese's candy is released I run to the store and clear off the shelves. With the most recent release, the Big Cup with Potato Chips, I had my eyes peeled everywhere I searched until I finally found them. My quest for that new cup was well worth it. The perfect balance between the saltiness, sweetness and the nice crunch of the potato chip filled my mouth with edible joy. Each...

We continually review and change our manufacturing processes to improve efficiencies in all aspects of our candy production and work with our suppliers to get the best possible costs on our ingredients and packaging. With continued cost pressures we are announcing a list price increase. Effective March 1, 2022, we will be implementing a price increase on our everyday products. See the...
While some old favorites such as Bulls Eyes, Cow Tails, Red Licorice Laces, Sour Patch Kids, and Watermelons have been "temporarily discontinued" by the manufacturer, we have added new candies at a record pace. In addition, in January, we switched away from a two-tier pricing system and increased the weights of many of our bags although we maintained the Blue & Red labels as they offer a nostalgic feel to any display. This new price point offers a better opportunity for retailers and a better value for consumers. We will soon be adding a Select Label featuring high-end chocolates and...
If you are located on the East Coast, this time of the year tends to be cold and dreary. Of course, if you are on the West Coast, it's a different story, but wherever you are, it is the perfect time to indulge in some new sweets. Although our focus is mainly on Valentine's and Easter Candy, we received two new products that we can't stop raving about, which might be a subtle way of saying that we actually can't stop eating. Old Dominion Peanut Blocks have been a retro candy staple since 1943 We have offered Planters and Lance...
New Bag Candies are coming soon! THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS... The past year has seen many of our best-selling bag candy items disappear. Some, like Caramel Creams, will be back in the near future while others such as Chocolate Licorice may be gone for good. It is frustrating to consumers, retailers, and wholesalers alike! THE GOOD NEWS... We did a poll and asked consumers what their favorite candies were. After tallying the results, we will be adding 15 new items with a focus on nostalgic candies (Atomic Fireballs, Hot Tamales, Jawbreakers, Jelly Beans, Lemonheads, Mike & Ikes, and Pixy Stix) and...
January 4, 2022 Dear Valued Customers, With commodity, labor, and transportation costs rising as never before, we have decided it was time to give our over fifty-year-old bag candy a new look! To maintain the quality these bags have come to represent; we decided it was better not to make the packs smaller but rather to sell them all at one price point and add new products and offer more generous bags. Effective January 10, all bag candy - blue and red labels - will be the same price. This change will allow for a much higher profit margin for...
At CandyFavorites, we are all about hard-to-find and Limited Edition candies. But, there is something fun, especially around the holidays, to give – or receive – an item that few others have, all the more so when it is candy. 2021 has had its supply chain challenges even in the candy world, where even everyday favorites such as Snickers have become hard to find. But that only makes our candy buyers work harder. So, you may be asking yourself, what have we found that is unusual and sweet for the holiday season? Here are a few hard-to-find items from Hershey's...
Who wouldn't want to win an entire case of Licorice Snaps! It seems as if since time eternal, or at least since we opened our doors on January 5th, 1927, we have waxed eloquent about the virtues of Licorice Snaps. They are, perhaps, the most sought after and most requested candy of all times, surpassing sweets such as the Marathon Bar! As retro candy is all about connecting people with a time when life was easier and sweeter, we thought it might be fun to give one lucky winner an entire CASE, yes 12 bags, of Original...
Now might be your last chance to enjoy Brach's Milk Chocolate Stars! It would be hard to imagine the holidays without a guiding star or, for that matter, Brach’s Milk Chocolate Stars. Their iconic shape is expected on holiday peanut butter cookies, and real milk chocolate taste has been imitated but never surpassed. Perhaps the best-selling chocolate holiday candy we have offered for several decades, we couldn’t imagine that this product would not be available. And then it wasn’t….. In the past few years, Brach’s has discontinued many of their beloved and iconic candies. It started a few years ago...
Who said that you couldn’t enjoy the taste of a deliciously warm and sticky Cinnamon Bun anytime? A pastry that was once relegated to breakfast is now available as a candy bar—introducing Snickers Cinnamon Buns. As tasty as the colorful packaging is beautiful, these VERY Limited Editions are a luscious combination of flavors, including crisp, freshly roasted peanuts, cinnamon-flavored chewy nougat, buttery caramel topped off with the delicious milk chocolate that Snickers lovers have come to expect and love. It’s a flavor explosion second to none! While these candy bars are delicious as a stand-alone snack, they go equally well...
Who would have imagined that Mike and Ike Fruit Chews won't be available shortly? Two of our favorite friends, Mike & Ike, are going on a sabbatical. We are not sure where they are going – perhaps a tropical island or a sojourn around the world – but the good news is that they will be back, but when remains unknown, which is in keeping with their overall mystique. Believe it or not, no one knows exactly who they were named after, even after over 80 years! So let’s consider them the "Unofficial Candy Men of Mystery." As you can...
Who said you can't enjoy the taste of fruity cereal all day long? I want to say I have a PSA ( in case you are wondering, it is an abbreviation for a public service announcement) that everyone in life should live by. Okay… here it goes: cereal is not just breakfast food. There. I said it and am feeling much relieved! I prefer my cereal at night before bed, and I know people who will eat their cereal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, second dessert, midnight snack, whenever! So the point is, why to take such a delicious and...
Hard to believe but the holidays are just around the corner and our holiday candy selection is amongst our best in decades. That's the good news! The not-so-good news is that supplies are VERY limited this year and we are not able to reorder seasonal merchandise once we sell out. With that said, we encourage you to order as early as possible, and if in doubt about how much you need, we would encourage you to order a bit more if only to make sure that have enough candy to fit your needs. Of course, we are always here to...
For over 60 years, McKeesport Candy Co. has been offering a wide range of wrapped and unwrapped candy under their own private label. They were the first wholesale candy company in the nation to offer a prepacked option and it went on to become a mainstay in high-end gift shops and stores throughout the country, especially in Western Pennsylvania. The original label was called "Todd's Kiddee Favorites." The name was changed in the 1970s to "Todd's Candy" and, later, to Candy Favorites to reflect the brand of our wholesale supplier. To view a catalog of our current product offerings, please...
Reese's Franken-Cups are a unique way to enhance any Halloween Candy Selection. 2021 has been a challenging year as supply chain issues have made sourcing seasonal candy difficult. Unlike other years, once a product is sold out, we are not able to reorder. This has caused many old-time favorites to sell out earlier than usual. We have a limited amount of the following Halloween Candies available but please note that they are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. 1951 Halloween Chocolate Pretzels – Bulk 4688 Halloween Chocolate Pretzels – 10 oz. Tie Top Bags 1952 Halloween Yogurt Pretzels- Bulk 4689...
A classic saying goes along the lines of "we all want what we can't have" or something of that nature (sorry, I admit I don't know the exact wording). Well, there was one specific candy that I used to have all the time growing up. One specific candy that my grandmother would somehow magically pull out of her purse and don't even get me started on my excitement seeing this special candy in my Easter basket. So what was this beyond delicious candy that had an iron grip on my 9-year-old self… CREME SAVERS HARD CANDY! Whether it was Orange...
With the holidays approaching and summer fading into a distant memory, cookie season is well upon us, and everyone loves to bite into the soft, chewy texture of a fresh-baked cookie. But what is the best cookie to indulge in this time of year? There has to be one that is universally loved by the cookie community. A cookie that is so delightful on the tip of your tongue that you will never turn one down. Well, I think I know of just the one. Chocolatey, peanut butter star cookies are a great fall treat to enjoy. These are the...
As loyal candy lovers and merchants know, the past few months have seen unprecedented issues with the supply chain. It seems as if products are being discontinued or are temporarily out of stock on a daily basis. Yes, it is frustrating! We just got notice that Haribo, aka the product of the world's best gummy candies, is going to be making a few of their best-selling items temporarily unavailable. The good news is that this interruption is due to Haribo creating a NEW warehouse - their third US distribution center - as well as their FIRST North American factory. Let's...
Dear Valued Customer, On your recent order, there may have been items marked “out of stock.” These shortages are as frustrating to us as they must be to you, and I want to explain. In the past year, we have experienced unprecedented issues with our supply chain. This has been especially hard on the candy industry, especially with novelty candy, which comes from other counties, and, surprisingly, everyday items such as Caramel Creams and Swedish Fish, to name but a few. We also suspect seasonal products will be in short supply as there will be no opportunity to reorder from...
As we all know, candy has become increasingly difficult to find. Many old-time favorites such as Caramel Creams and Swedish Fish have been temporarily discontinued - yikes - and finding a substitution is more challenging than finding a needle in a haystack. Last week, we stumbled upon a delicious substitute for Caramel Creams. Of course, it is not the same product, nor is it supposed to be, but it is a delicious caramel that is sure to please in a combination of flavors. The first variety is the Caramel Coconut Rolls. Individually wrapped and with an unusual flavor pairing, these...
We didn't believe this either but we were just notified by the manufacturer that bulk Caramel Creams, Brownie Caramel Creams, and Mini Cow Tales are being "temporarily suspended" until further notice. You might ask yourself what exactly does this means. Smaller unit sales such as count goods will still be available, but anything sold by weight or repackaged will not be available. Below is a copy of the August 9th notification received from Goetze's "As a result of the current employment environment around the country and specifically in the state of Maryland, we continue to face staffing shortages that are...
This Summer has treated me pretty darn good, and I hope all of you are reading this can say the same. Now, August is in full swing, and I can’t help but feel like August is the Sunday of summer. June is the Friday, where everyone goes super hard because they are excited the weekend is beginning. Then July comes, and it’s time for sitting outside in the sun all day, relaxing and then taking the night by storm. So now here we are in August, where you enjoy your day, but there are still those “Sunday scaries” in the...

One would have to go far and wide to find someone who doesn't love the delectable combination of melted chocolate covering an oozing marshmallow sandwiched between two crisp graham crackers. Much like finding out who accidentally dipped their chocolate bar in a jar of peanut butter, the history of this combination remains a mystery. Few would dispute that the combination of flavors and textures rivals - or perhaps surpasses - some of the greatest candy bars. Leave it to Hershey' to create a combo pack that pays tribute to the "the Great American Chocolate Bar" and provides all the necessary...
Every so often, there is a candy that becomes the "Holy Grail." Many moons ago, it was Pop Rocks; then it was Blue Raz Charms Blow Pops. Thanks to social media, especially Tik Tok, Toxic Waste Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy - try saying that fast a few times - have become the most requested and HARDEST TO FIND candy in 2020 / 2021! As with almost everything in this post-pandemic world, demand has far outpaced supply. The prices on eBay have been crazy, and if, yes, IF, you could get your hands on a few individual pieces, consider...
First launched in the 1950s, our private label bag candy program has become a staple at many of the best candy stores in the nation. These new items are a perfect way to expand your offerings with a decidedly retro twist. Andes Creme De Menthe Mints have been around since the 1950s and were amongst the first chocolate items that we offered. In one of those odd twists of fates, we stopped bagging them in the 1980s, and it wasn’t until doing a little research that we realized that these were one of...
Call us set in in our ways, or, perhaps, more kindly “nostalgic,” but we have always taken a liking to products that withstand the test of time. There is something about products that resist the sirens call of change that makes our job much easier. With this disclosure, you can imagine how happy we were to receive two new flavors of Claeys Old Fashion Hard Candies – Green Apple & Peppermint. Founded in 1919 in a small garage in South Bend, Indiana, Claeys has withstood the test of time. 102 years later, much like McKeesport Candy Co., it is in...
Bubble Gum has been a big part of the game of baseball for decades. Nothing like chomping on a big chunk of gum and taking part in one of America’s favorite past times. Baseball has been one of this country's oldest and most beloved sports and no one is denying that. But when it comes to baseball and major league sports all around, there is a lack of representation for one particular group: women. But leave it to the good folks at Ford Gum to make sure that their products would not lack female representation. In 2019, Big League Chew...
Warm weather is here, and I really, honestly can’t believe it’s already May. With that being said, April showers bring May flowers, but what does May bring. I’ll tell you what it brings, hotter sun, greener trees, and ice cream cones. But with the warmer weather comes messier ice cream. I have war flashbacks of soft-serve ice cream melting completely down my arm and me being sticky for the rest of the day. Well, ladies and gents, this doesn’t have to be a problem this time around. After a long hiatus and three, yes three, ownership changes, the beloved Marpo...
There are many iconic questions that most people will come by in life. What’s your favorite color? Sparkling or still? Does pineapple belong on pizza? But the one I’m thinking of is, around the loop or bunny ears? If you are wondering what the question refers to, then I may be thinking that you live under a rock or have never seen the shoelace episode of Spongebob, but I don’t want to be rude. When it comes to tying your shoelaces there are two ways to go, either around the big loop and pull, or two bunny ear loops tied...
It’s no secret that we love our customers here at Candyfavorites.com. After 93 years, we might even go out on a limb and say we are like a big, happy candy family (it’s hard to be unhappy when there is candy involved). So with that in mind, we wanted to create something that benefits you, the customer, while also helping us out. I know the suspense is killing you, so please allow me to introduce… REWARDS, REWARDS, REWARDS..... Candyfavorites.com now offers a sweet new REWARDS PROGRAM so that every piece of candy you buy, every Dum Dum Lollipop, every 100...
Let me admit to something here; I am addicted to Tik Tok. Wow, does it feel good to get that off my chest! Now I may be a bit dramatic… but my Tik Tok addition has led me to a crazy candy showing up on everyone’s “for you” page. Curious? Read on. Slime Lickers are the latest internet fad sweeping the globe! This liquid candy gives your tastebuds a sour explosion as you roll your tongue across the sphere-shaped top. It’s kind of like licking a lollipop, but different. These candies pack the sour punch and will leave you puckered up...
The warm weather has officially arrived and we are ready to get outside and enjoy all the sun has to offer. For those of you on the East coast, it was a long, cold winter. After being stuck inside most of the winter months, there seems to be some hope that we can go outside, sit back in the yard and hey, maybe even enjoy some Martin’s Potato Chips. Now, I don’t know about you but when the weather warms up and the trees are green again, I want to be outside all the time. I think of playing games...
WE CAN'T PRONOUNCE IT EITHER…. You may be asking yourself what exactly is a Whozeewhatzit or, for that matter, how do I pronounce it. Released in March, this is the FIRST candy bar that Hershey has released in over a decade! A contest decided the name, and many think of it as the Whatchamacallit Bar's "younger sibling." However you look at it, this is as much a conversation starter as it is a great candy bar, and it is new! Who could ask for more? Our experience is that they sell best when paired with one another. Think of it...
Astro Pops are back!
3, 2, 1… blastoff! Astro Pops are delicious, and if you haven't tried them, then you need to get on that now (by ordering some from Candyfavorites.com, of course), but have you ever wondered how these astronomically delicious, out-of-this-world candies came to be?
Astro Pops - A classic since its launch in 1963

Sweet News from America's Oldest Wholesale Candy Company We have received many inquiries from consumers looking for specific candy products such as Individually Colored Gummi Bears or large Sour Neon Worms In February 2021, Albanese Confectionery announced that they would be discontinuing many products and focusing more on core offerings such as classic 12 Flavor Gummi Bears or Gummi Peach Rings. The discontinued products are no longer available and while we are searching for replacements, no has yet been forthcoming. Yes, this is as frustrating to us as a wholesaler as it must be to the consumer. Below is the...
Here at Candyfavorites.com, we love the classics. We love the original, go-to candies that everyone recognizes... really, we do. But, we also love creative sweets, and maybe ones that are a little bit out of the ordinary, aka weird. That has never stopped us from enjoying something because candy is candy, no matter how different. And that is why we want to spotlight two of our more unique products, Koko’s Fast Fries Candy Spray and Koko’s Dip-N-Lik Fast Burger. Now stay with me here, Fast Fries Candy Spray and a Dip-N-Lik Fast Burger? These might sound a little too different...

A needlepoint candy jar made by Myrna Prince As the oldest wholesale candy company in the nation and the first internet candy store, we have seen many candies come and go. What we haven't done in quite some time is compile a catalog, allowing you to browse most of the items we sell. While it is not as impressive as the needlepoint candy jar above, it was a daunting task, and with new products arriving weekly - and other favorites sadly disappearing - we will be updating this regularly. Consider it a labor of love or, on this end, a...
A Teaberry Gum Ad from the 1950s Usually, when people reminisce on the D.L. Clark Company (created back in the late 1800s), they associate the Clark Bar's name and good ol’ Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (our home field ). But there is another star that has to share the spotlight with the sought after candy bar, Teaberry Gum. Think of a refreshing mint gum that isn’t too harsh on the taste buds, and that is what you get with Clark’s Teaberry Gum, or, at least, that is what you got before it disappeared from well-stocked retro candy counters a few years ago....

The grace period is over, ladies and gentlemen. The hangovers from New Year's Eve are long gone, and I hate to inform you, but 2021 is here, and now is the time to get motivated and be your best self. Now you might think, new year, new diet. You might think now is the time to cut out sugar, fat, carbs, and everything under the sun considered "bad" for you. But this isn't what this means at all, and you know what is fun to enjoy when you are your best self...candy. So now that February is almost here, it's...
Dear Valued Customers,
In our 93 years of business, I can comfortably say that 2020 was like
none other.
The past few months has had its challenges for all of us, and that makes Thanksgiving more special this year.
Without you, we would not be the OLDEST wholesale candy company in the nation and the FIRST internet candy store, and for this, I am immensely appreciative.
Even the darkest cloud often has a silver lining and we all have many
reasons to give thanks.
Here’s wishing you and yours a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Jon H.PRINCE

Here's another piece of sad trivia - Lemonheads were invented by the same company that brought us Atomic Fireballs and Jawbusters. Unfortunately, Atomic Fireballs and Jawbreakers were recently discontinued.
Black licorice is one candy that has a pretty bad rep, but also a die-hard fanbase. Now, you may be thinking the only people who are hardcore licorice fans are your grandpa and the old lady across the street with one too many cats. But licorice fans are everywhere, they just may be the silent majority. If you think about it though, it would be nice to enjoy black licorice that is covered in something sweet, like a colorful candy outer-shell. Now, with the return of Licorice Snaps, you can. Introduced in the 1930s, by the American Licorice Company, The...
Brach's Turkey Dinner Candy Corn pays tribute to holidays past! Quantities are extremely limited! B Well, folks, fall has almost fallen. As temperatures drop, people are beginning to pay more attention to their favorite fall items and foods. Whether it be that pumpkin spice latte or your most worn pair of boots, there is something everyone is excited for during the fall. But I want to talk about something a bit controversial in the candy world. Some believe this item to be the epitome of the fall season, but some also believe it to be an insult to the candy...
Alert the media and get your shopping baskets ready. Tootsie has released its LIMITED EDITION candies for the fall season. You eat one of these and it will really get you in the fall...

Meet Murphy Patterson, our new blog writer! Ladies and gentlemen, now introducing… yeah let’s not do that, let me try again... Hi, I’m Murphy Patterson, recent Ohio University graduate, former horse girl, rocker chick at heart, and an occasional bartender when the pockets are nearing empty. I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and still live here today. Do I want to live here my entire life? Not too sure about that one, but I will always be rooting for the black and gold, and love to let everyone know. It’s the city of champions baby! In my spare time, if...

Halloween @ Home offers a safer way to enjoy Halloween in 2020 As this whirlwind of summer is coming to a close, we are still trying to adapt during these uncertain times and there is a HUGE elephant in the room that people aren’t really talking about. What are we going to do about Halloween? Personally, I started thinking about my costume the day after last Halloween, and I’m stuck between Stevie Nicks and Captain Jack Sparrow. But these are costumes that need a spotlight, and I don’t know if this Halloween will be the year to really shine. But...
Necco Wafers are making a comeback in 2020 Over our ninety-three years, many beloved candies have come and gone. Some disappear below the radar, others not. In recent years, the list of discontinued candies has included favorites such as Brach's Ice Blue Mints, Clark Bars, Sky Bars, and all products made by what was once America's oldest and most fabled candy company, New England Confectionary Company. An ounce of prevention beats a pound of (melted chocolate) cure... Well, it’s finally summer, and while it may be different than summers’ past, it looks like it is going to be a HOT ONE. As much as we love hot weather, chocolate and gummy candy don’t, and we encourage you to STOCK UP on perishable products as we will not be able to safely ship certain items as the thermometer rises! In these unprecedented times, change and flexibility have become the norm. We are working hard to process orders as safely and quickly as possible but cannot guarantee that your order arrives when it is should. Let me explain…. Smaller orders ship via UPS Sure Post which is an efficient way to have candy delivered to a residence. More often than not, there is not an issue with time in transit. As of March 26, 2020, if you opt for Expedited Services such as UPS 3 DAY or faster, there is a strong chance your order will arrive when scheduled BUT...
We were thrilled to learn that a few of the ol’ Necco candy favorites will soon be back. NECCO won’t make them - alas, one of America’s most beloved candy companies shuttered its doors in 2019 – but the replacements certainly fill a void in the ever-shrinking retro candy offerings. One of the oldest candies offered was the NECCO Wintergreen and Peppermint Lozenges. These were the stuff of lore as they were considered “indestructible calories” and purportedly accompanied intrepid explorers such as Admiral Byrd on his Antarctic expeditions. They were also used in the Second World War as they were...

Some things are hard to believe and disbelief was the first thing that crossed our minds when we read that Brach’s Butterscotch Disks are being discontinued. We thought it might be a typographical error and then checked the prescription in our reading glasses. After a few phone calls and emails, we realized this was not “fake news,” and that this beloved candy was soon to enter the realm of memory. Being one, if not THE oldest wholesale candy distributors of Brach’s Candy, we were heartbroken but, sadly, have seen this happen all too many times before. Is this...
Throughout history, there have been many unanswered questions running the gamut from silly to serious? Some are curious if there is life on other planets, others wonder if Big Foot exists but we have a far more pressing issue Licorice Snaps have long been considered the Holy Grail – talk about another unanswered question in history! And we are proud to offer a limited supply of the Original Formula. That’s good news! The bad news is that despite our best efforts, we can’t figure out exactly what they taste like, and few candy lovers can agree. Everyone knows they love...
Snyder's of Berlin Original Potato Chips are the "ne plus ultra" of snacks! We love products with a unique history all the more so when the hail from our neck of the woods. Located in Pittsburgh since 1927, we have seen the birth of many unique candies such as Clark Bars and Mallo Cups, but it would be an oversight to overlook one of America’s favorite potato chip brands which was founded by the Snyder Family in the 1920s around the time our wholesale company was founded! The company was located in Hanover, Pennsylvania which is why many of the...

Red Hot Dollars have a sacred place in the history of candy and were one of the first bulk “novelty” candies that our wholesale division offered. No one knows the exact date of their invention, it is somewhere between 2015 or 2016, but records show that our wholesale division was purchasing them as far back as 1927! Did you know that Heide Red Hot Dollars were originally Rapberry flavored? Initially made by the now long gone Henry Heide Company, who also made Black Licorice Dollars and Chocolate Babies to name but a few, Red Hot Dollars was one of the most...
A childhood song goes, “make a new friend but don’t forget the old. One is silver, and the other is gold.” It’s sage advice and inevitably comes to mind when enjoying the delicious new taste of Boyer Clark Cups. They may not be the exact taste, nor look, of Clark Bars from yesteryear, but they are a delightful tribute to one of the most famous candy bars first invented in McKeesport, PA., only blocks from our warehouse on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. Note to the reader; they weren’t exactly “born in the Burgh” as the label reads, but pretty darn close...
Anyone who has been in the workforce has a special memory of a favorite employee or employer who had a cache of candy ready for good times or bad. Perhaps it was a secretary whose candy supply seemed leftover from when the company was founded or maybe it was a boss who, despite a sometimes cranky demeanor, had a ready amount of Hershey’s Kisses on hand. Perhaps it was a candy bowl in the lunchroom in which the chocolates mysteriously disappeared or a colleague who chewed gum a little too loudly. Whatever your story may be, let us know! March 1st...
We all know how exciting it can be to find a long-lost candy favorite after years of thinking you might never be able to enjoy it again. And yet, sometimes, my favorite candy tatses different than you may have remembered. When this happens, it can be disconcerting. We understand as we have been “selling retro candy long before it was considered retro,” and have many candies change, or worse, disappear, over our 90 plus year history! The tricky thing about taste is that it is highly subjective. Many candies, especially those that have been around for decades, are susceptible to...
We love candy, and as most candy lovers would attest, M&M’s Chocolate Candies are tried and true. Few sweets replicate the delicious taste of a thin candy shell encasing rich milk chocolate or chocolate covered peanut. It is one of those elusive products that exemplify the maxim, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” M&M's Thai Coconut Chocolate Candies We admit that we are skeptical when a new flavor or limited edition cross our path. More often than not, the new flavors are a "flash in the pan" novelty that won’t withstand the test of time. This skepticism occurred when...
For generations, Valentine’s Day has not been complete without at least one box of Conversation Hearts. You know them when you see them. Also known as Sweethearts, they’re the super sweet, heart-shaped treats with phrases like, ‘Be Mine’ and ‘Kiss Me’ emblazoned on the front. A staple of school parties and a beloved addition to candy drawers everywhere, Conversation Hearts have truly been a cornerstone of the sweetest holiday of the year for generations. Unfortunately, all those days spent loving (or loving to hate) Conversation Hearts will soon become just a memory. NECCO, the original manufacturer of Conversation Hearts went...
Here at CandyFavorites.com, we believe that candy is better when eaten together. We also strive to support small businesses at every opportunity. We’ve kept things largely in the family here, and we know what it takes to be successful in this industry! As a result, we enjoy partnering with companies who align with our values. One such company is Arnold’s Candies. For the past 65 years, Arnold’s Candies has manufactured all of their candies, by hand, in Akron, Ohio--just a stone’s throw away from our home base in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. You could say we’re practically neighbors. Before we became CandyFavorites.com,...
Remember when cotton candy was a treat reserved for carnivals and trips to the ballpark? As adults, it’s easy to see why our parents may have been less than enthusiastic about this sugary treat being more than an occasional indulgence (read: sugar rush + sugar crash), but in some ways, that made the rare cotton candy event even more fulfilling! The good news is that as an adult, you can eat cotton candy whenever you want, and the better news is that you don’t have to wait for an annual outing to get your fix. So to help you with...
When you think of fun and interesting candy flavors, you know, the kind you love and can’t seem to resist, which flavors come to mind? Maybe it’s chocolate, or something more exotic and fruity? While we don’t know exactly what you thought of, we’re willing to guess it wasn’t pickle! For most of us at least, pickles are a briny, crunchy, not-at-all-remotely-related-to-candy item, best enjoyed in a moment of savory snacking. But what if pickle flavors could transcend the sweet versus savory binary, to become something more wonderful, more delicious than you ever thought possible? The truth is, it can!...
Your favorite childhood cough drops are back! We all know how comforting it can be to soothe a sore throat with a cough drop. But, did you know the history of everyone’s favorite sick day remedy? A Humble Beginning Legend has it that the first cough drop in America came from a small-batch, family-owned candy store in 1847 and continued to comfort sore throats and coughs with a classic, soothing relief, for generations to come. As you probably guessed, the family name was Smith and the store was owned by two brothers hence how Smith Brothers Cough Drops got their...
Black Jack, Beemans and Clove Gum Set to Return This Fall The lifespan of a candy is never known. What seems like a classic could be gone in an instant, leaving candy lovers wondering how to satisfy their sweet tooth cravings, and feeling that the candy world will never be the same again. However, for some candies, there is a miraculous comeback story, a happy redemption that reminds us all just how unexpected and beautiful the industry can be. Today, we are glad to report that, long-time favorites Black Jack, Beemans and Clove Chewing Gum will be back on the...
Black licorice. When it comes to candy, this may be one of the most polarizing topics out there. Licorice haters may always hate, but licorice lovers are some of the most die-hard fans we know. So if you love licorice, then you already know that Licorice Snaps were a household name for generations. Licorice Snaps: The Holy Grail of Licorice In 1914, Martin Kretchmer founded the American Licorice Company in Chicago, Illinois. Back then, Black Licorice Twists were the focus, and when those caught on, the company began to expand their offerings. It wasn’t until the 1930’s, however, when The...
I have always said that laughter is the key to anyone’s heart, but is it the key to their stomachs as well? The Willy Wonka Candy Company and Mars Incorporated may have something to say when it comes to that topic. With the creations of Laffy Taffy and Snickers bars, their candies are sure to keep their consumers happy. Although the two candies are completely different, they both offer unique twists on classic candies. So let’s dig in to some flavorful facts. Taffy or Toffee, depending on where you live, was first brought into light in 1817 when the word...
There are few things in life that gain enough attention to warrant a place on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. While politics, business, stocks and the economy are frequent flyers, changes in the candy world are not. That is, not unless it’s NECCO Wafer. That’s right. This morning, the NECCO Wafer and CandyFavorites are featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Jon Prince of CandyFavorites.com fielded hundreds of hectic calls over a recent weekend, with some buyers pleading to purchase his entire inventory of NECCO wafers. CandyFavorites: A NECCO Authority The article, which details...
As we all know, Easter is a holiday full of religious symbolism, but it is also a holiday full of candy! After Halloween of course, Easter is the second most popular holiday to indulge in all of your favorite sweets-- especially ones that you may not have access to year round. So I decided to check out some of Brach’s Easter candies and see how they compare to the better known Peeps and Cadbury Eggs. I got to delve into some White and Pastel Malt Eggs, Chicks and Rabbits, and Hunt Eggs, none of which I had previously tried. Easter...
Have you ever heard someone lament the fact that life just “isn’t like it used to be?” We know we’ve heard it many times before, but when it comes to candy, this sentiment seems to be especially true! It’s a common practice for candy manufacturers to change formulas over the years. So, even if a treat has been around for decades, it may not taste exactly the way it did when it first hit shelves. Mars Bar -- Back And Better Than Ever If you’re a fan of Mars candy, then you may well know the famed history of the...
If you were asked to think of a few of your favorite classic candies, what would come to mind Well, if you are like many, then Banana Splits, Canada Mints, Candy Buttons, Conversation Hearts, Clark Bars, Coconut Crunch Peanut Butter Logs, Malted Milk Balls, Mary Janes, Mint Juleps, Peach Blossoms, Sky Bars, Slapstix, NECCO Wafers and Wintergreen Lozenges may be some of your initial thoughts. But can you guess what all of these candies have in common? As it turns out, they’re all made by New England Confectionery Company, better known as NECCO. A Company that Has Stood the Test...

How many licks does it REALLY take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? The world may never know. Right? Who remembers seeing that commercial, the one with the little boy and Mr. Owl? I know I do. Did you know that the commercial is a lot longer than the one we know and love today? The original commercial has the little boy first talking to a cow, then a fox, a turtle, and finally Mr. Owl. After this campaign came out, different groups of people decided to test how many licks it really took. Purdue University, University...
As Valentine’s Day is a day of love and candy, I decided to do a little research as to why. We all know that the big Hallmark holidays like Halloween and Valentine’s Day are all about candy, but have you ever thought about why you are stuffing chocolates into your mouth? Ancient Romans were the first ones to start the Valentine’s Day tradition. There were two different Saint Valentines that the holiday was named after. Every year around mid February, the Romans held an enormous festival called Lupercalia. This contained a feast in which the single young adults ate treats,...
What comes to mind when you think of the most controversial candies? Do you think of Circus Peanuts, Mary Janes, or Candy Corn? After much research, I have learned that the top three most controversial candies in America are those three. People think of circus peanuts as confections, not even candy, candy corn is one of those candies that you either love or hate, and as for Mary Janes, people say that peanut butter shouldn’t be chewy. But I think there are some really great aspects of these candies that consumers should stop overlooking, so let’s take a deeper look....
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas . . . perhaps . . . means a little bit more!” ― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Last week I ran to our local supermarket to pick up milk, orange juice, lettuce, and whatever I can whip up for dinner on very short notice. On my way to the check out I noticed the stock boy opening a mountain of boxes in the front of the checkout lanes. Isn’t this the spot where all the...

So “Here’s looking at you kid,” as you find your seat, sit back and relax as the curtain opens to some blockbuster candy treats that made their name on the silver as well as the small screen. Come summer everyone is ready to ditch us because we melt in the heat. Hey, we get it! We do get gooey, lose our shape, stick to your fingers and aren’t too much fun when you find us flattened in your pocket or squished at the bottom of your purse. We’re not happily packed in your beach bag, included on your summer picnic...

Because candy buffets aren’t just for weddings...
“Sometimes memories sneak out of my eyes and roll down my cheeks.” Did you ever wish you could have just one special day back from your childhood? A day where you could be in a certain place, with a specific person, at a particular time? A day you could freeze and thaw anytime you wanted? I think memories work like that. I have many ”wish days” but there’s one that I’d love to relive. That certain place would be at our family store, Davidek’s Market, the specific person would be my dad, and that particular time would be after school....
When summer rolls around, most people assume that themed candy is no longer relevant. After all, what could you need from May to September? Most of the major holidays that are associated with candy are in the winter months, after all. Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day--oh my! There really is a lot of sweet tooth satisfying going on. But if you’ve been thinking in that way, you’ve been overlooking the fact that summer, with its patriotic Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, is a prime time for red, white, and blue candies! This communication is being sent from our warehouse basement storeroom, where all employees are being held hostage by rebel Gummi candies. They have overtaken us with Sweet Squirter Guns and tied us up with Licorice Laces, but I've managed to chew through them. The Gummies won't relinquish control until all candies are liberated from our warehouse so they may roam free in the world. For the sake of all the hard working employees at CandyFavorites.com, I implore you to fill your shopping carts with loads of sweet treats before they...

Trolli Santa & Elves Mustaches Gummi Candy Classroom/movie Munchability: 5 (the fun is in the dress-up play!) Melt Measure: 0 Novelty: 9 Sharability: 10 Trust me, it is as much a surprise to me as it is to you that the elves of Santa’s toy shop have the same type of mustaches that Santa has! I always imagined the elves as baby faced little characters running around childishly as they assembled toys for the undersides of all the Christmas trees of children. (Despite growing up Jewish, I have still had many daydream about Santa and his elves). Perhaps the elves...

After reading the “a bit about Becca our resident candy blogger” bio for the first time in five years, I felt a little embarrassed that that’s what is informing the current candy lovers about their resident blogger. Allow me to quickly catch you up on what I was doing during the five years that I was not writing candy blogs. Last you heard, I was a sophomore at the University of Colorado in Boulder, beginning to discover myself. Since then, I took two years off of school. I lived in an intentionally community on a small farm in Israel,...
Peeps Minis Chocolate Creme These peeps are of an unfamiliar sort. All cramped up inside the bag, 24 to a room, it’s the factory farming of peeps. They took them out of their bag free, free-range boxes and stuck them into a bag. After yesterday’s “Peepa” march against bagged peeps, I decided to get a bag to see what the disturbance was about. I rip off the seal and unzip the dark cave where the peeps reside. My hand reaches down and the bag crinkles. It’s warm and soft, I just grab something because I’m not sure where each one...
The world of candy blogging has called me back. Maybe it is the expanded appreciation I have now for sweets; working in wilderness therapy, a treat of sugar at night, when all the students are zipped into their sleeping bags, brings a moment of absolute solitude and bliss. Nothing can interrupt the sweet serenity of a well-earned bit of melting chocolate on the tongue. Maybe I am back because it would be selfish and rude to pass up the candy blogging opportunity that every child dreams of... The reasoning is less important than the result, which is that Becca is...

Snap From The Past Black licorice. Some people love it. Some people hate it. But no matter where you stand on the licorice spectrum, wouldn’t licorice be better if it was coated in something sweet? Like candy? We think so, and apparently we’re not alone. You see, the good people at the American Licorice Company are one step ahead of you, and have been for quite a few decades. An Instant Classic The American Licorice Company started in 1914 in Chicago, Illinois. Back then, their very first candy was licorice twists. Next came licorice cigarettes and cigars, during the Great...
Claeys Candy was founded in 1919 by Jerome C. Claeys in his garage. Located in South Bend, Indiana, after 104 years, Claeys Candy proudly calls Indiana home. Much like McKeesport Candy Co., Claey's has remained a generation-family business. In case you still need to figure it out, we have a soft spot for family businesses, especially ones that are still surviving the test of time. Jerome C. Claey is the grandfather of the current president, Gregg Claeys. The company was initially located in a small building on Blaine Avenue in South Bend. However, as their sales increased because of their delicious candies, so did...

A Candy By Another Name The history of the Zero bar is a cool one, indeed. In 1920, the Hollywood Brands Company introduced what was then called the Double Zero Bar. At that time, the Minnesota based company manufactured the candies at a factory in Centralia, Illinois. Made of caramel, peanut, almond, and nougat, and covered with a layer of white fudge, it wasn’t long before these Double Zero Bars were known for their distinctive white exterior. Back in the day, these sweet treats sold for only a penny each, boasting a label that promised kids a steam engine toy...
The Oh Henry Bar is a straightforward, delicious candy bar with a somewhat complicated history. As opposed to Snickers that was named after Forrest Mars' beloved racehorse, no one is 100% certain where the name for Oh Henry came from. Theories abound but one thing that almost everyone agrees upon is that this is a delicious candy bar and has been for close to 100 years. And no, this candy bar is not named after the baseball great Hank Aaron. Spark your curiosity? Read on… Lore has it that the name was derived from that of a randy young man...
What could a horse and a candy bar possibly have in common? This is a question that candy lovers have pondered for 83 years. A New Kind of Candy Bar In 1930, Frank Mars, the father of Forrest Mars, named his candy bar after his beloved horse named Snickers. Ironically, the name of the family farm located in Tennessee was Milky Way. These candy bars stirred a bit of controversy upon their release as they were priced at 20 cents at a time when customers expected candy bars to cost a nickel. The inspiration for the bar wasn't a candy...
NECCO WAFERS ARE OLD-SCHOOL COOL It's hard to believe these delicious pastel wafers will soon be celebrating their 167th birthday. (They look pretty good for their age, don't they?) Their longevity places them among the pantheon of great American candies. A Burst of Energy Right Out of the Gate One of the most interesting things about Necco Wafers is that these candies sided with the Union during the Civil War. They were invented by Oliver Chase who used them as a way to give troops an energy boost, making them the oldest energy candy that we know of. It would...
Is the difference subtle or substantial? I love licorice snaps. You could say I acquired a taste for them. Black licorice is my absolute favorite candy, so I’m always up for a new licorice adventure. The first time I ate Snaps, I thought I hated them. I thought they tasted like paint. But they had a tough toothiness that made them kind of irresistible. By the time I finished my first box, I was hooked. I don’t know what that paint thing was about. I love them. A Troubling Tip At CandyFavorites, a customer recently brought it to our attention...

Lots of things are red! Roses are also expensive and short lived, and they don't taste very good. Let's tackle these issues one at a time, shall we? Price (Reality) Check It's common knowledge that the price of flowers skyrockets around Valentine's Day... especially red roses. It doesn't seem fair to take advantage of those who are trying to express some love to one another. Talk about hypocrisy! Candy doesn't play dirty like that. Our prices are the same every day, no matter what time of the year you want candy or what color you're looking for. Life Expectency When...
Candy Favorites can! Experience the Joy of This... Big, unruly mobs aren't for everyone. But sometimes they're impossible to avoid when it comes to holiday gift shopping. And nothing predicates pandemonium like when a candy company neatly tucks mysterious “yellow vouchers” inside of the carefully packed candies of unsuspecting (but oh-so-hopeful) consumers! Combine both of those situations and you run the risk of absolute mahem. So what happens when you love gift-giving, candy contests, and the holidays, but don't enjoy mahem? Are you out of luck? Of course not! We have a solution for that... We’ve devised the perfect...

It's easy to overlook amongst the sweet corn, watermelon, and barbecue of summer, but Patriotic Candy is an integral part of the American tradition. As July 4th approaches, make sure to stick a pin in all your colorful ideas for later this year. Executive Jelly Beans One of the most incredible stories in American candy history is that of the Blueberry Jelly Belly. When he was governor of California, Ronald Reagan developed quite a love for pectin jelly beans. Around the time of Reagan's inauguration, Jelly Bellies only came in red, yellow, white, orange, and black. The Blueberry Jelly Belly...

Brach's Neapolitan Coconut Sundaes are classic candies that imitate a Neapolitan ice cream sundae. They were among the original candies offered by Brach's, and have always been made from real coconut. We're sad to report that Brach's Neapolitan Coconut Sundaes will be discontinued in June of 2012. We've got them in stock (and on sale!) so if these are your kryptonite, it's time to place your order, warm up your time machine, and send some to your future self. Outsmart Those Neapolitan Nabbers Sure, some people just like coconut. But others among us have more important reasons for loving Brach's...
Our latest guest writer deserves a grander-than-usual introduction. Kate Hopkins is the celebrated author of the book Sweet Tooth: The Bittersweet History of Candy, released this year by St. Martin’s Press. A few weeks back, we asked her to write a bit about her new book, as well as share her perspective on candy. Never one to miss a chance to talk about candy, she took us up on the offer. There is a "thing" about candy which most of us fans are aware of, but to which we rarely put words. In the course of my travels in writing...
Every once in a while, we get the opportunity to share something especially great with our customers. Passing on the Savings This week (the first week of May, 2012), we get to extend something really special to our loyal customers and all the Brach's enthusiasts out there -- a Brach's event. We've received a huge shipment of Brach's...

It's our way of spreading the love of retro candies and making sure that future generations get to enjoy the same flavors we savor today. This has been our best contest ever. Reading the reasons we should choose each of you to win had us laughing and crying. There were so many great responses that we eventually had to just narrow down the finalists and pick a name at random.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015) And so, without further ado, the winner is: Mary Ann Wentzel We’ve learned a lot about our customers over the past few days. Many of you feel really sentimental about Brach’s candy. Some are fueled by sweets every single day (and nobody’d better get between you and your candy)....
This week, it's big news that Mars, Inc. will be limiting the portion size of its products to 250 calories or less. The world has begun mourning the death of the King Size Snickers. If you need to stock up before your favorites disappear forever, check out our King Size Candy Bar section. Controlling Portions Some candy bars will get smaller. But this doesn't necessarily mean only small packs will be available. The word "portion" seems to be important here. Take a King Size Snickers. There are actually three portions in there, but eating them that way isn't so realistic,...
When we think of cherry cordials now, we think of chocolate-covered cherries filled with a sweet syrup. However, the cordial reaches a bit farther back than the tasty treats we associate with the holiday season. The word “cordial” contains the word “cor,” which means “heart” in Latin. As a noun, cordial can mean medicine or medicinal food or drink and the cordial was originally used as a type of medical tonic. Cordials were believed to stimulate the heart and therefore improve circulation. The medicinal use of the cordial continued until the 1400’s when it arrived in England. They were “taken”...

Being in the candy business is a lot of fun. We often get to connect people with candies they've loved and lost. Each holiday brings a wave of exhilaration at being part of something joyful. But every once in a while, we're fortunate that our work allows us to do something really cool. Just before Christmas this year, an email from a drowsy dad gave us just that kind of opportunity. Nearly every young child has their favorite thing -- some item they hold on to for comfort throughout their early years. For one boy, it was a soft yellow...
Entertaining guests is an integral part of the holiday season. Whether you plan elaborate get-togethers or get caught off guard by spontaneous drop-ins, your unused chairs and "nice" dishes are bound to get some play before the end of the year. I recently discovered a time-tested strategy for making all this visiting easier -- one that seems to have been forgotten along the way by generation X. Pam Knows What's Up It's very simple. Put candy all over your house. I'm not kidding. As an eater of salad in lieu of dessert, I am the last person who ever expected...

Trick-or-treating was one of my favorite things when I was younger. Even better, I loved returning and trading all my favorite candies with my friends. I would always trade certain candies for others, trying to create the best bag of candy. However, I’m unsure if my taste aligns with the most popular Halloween candies, as reported by Thrillist. Candy is highly subjective as everyone has their own personal preferences but, as you will see, my allegiance always lies with Reese's and their beloved, fabled combination of Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate Reese’s Cups I give this ranking a 10/10. Reese's...

I had the unexpected pleasure of meeting some reps from Jelly Belly a few days ago. What wonderful people! And they left behind a single Harry Potter Chocolate Frog for my own personal enjoyment. It's the Crispy One, Not the Giant One I've of course been incredibly curious about these. The giant version available at Honeydukes at Universal Studios has gotten a lot of coverage. But those reviews have been mixed -- raving about the packaging and size of the frog, but mostly meh on the flavor and quality of the chocolate. Well, I don't know who makes those, but...

Do you crave peanut butter? Do you hoard peanut-butter-filled wonders in your freezer? Do you keep some in the fridge to ensure suitable textures for all nature of cravings? Have the mothers of children screamed at you for the trail of allergen-rife wrappers you leave in your wake? I understand. Peanut Butter Candy is not the most socially approved preoccupation. You can't just go around eating most candies filled with peanut butter all the time. It's rude to steal them from your co-workers. It's greasy and melty and will do terrible things to your body. So the only real options...

I love this photo. Other than being appealing simply because it is delicious fruity jelly candy, it has a shallow depth of field and enough in the foreground to give context to the main image. It also uses the rule of thirds, just like last week's photo. In addition, the human element is what makes this photo great. It gives us a sense of what it might be like to eat a long trail of candy like the guy in the picture is doing.
Submit your candy photos to the Candy Favorites Flickr Group!
Candy sure can be pretty! When I was a kid I always wanted to get one of these giant lollipops. It seemed like it might last me all week, and possibly into the next. What I like about this photo most, other than it shows someone obviously enjoying candy, is the composition. The photographer uses the rule of thirds, placing the subject off-center. In addition, the subject is looking into the empty two thirds of the photo. The angle of her body creates some diagonal lines, which go counter to the lines created by the direction of her eyes. This...
Yes, I am thinking about having an Easter party this year. In the past that would have been a no-go, but this year I am open to change and thinking that maybe I will give it a whirl. After all, my seersucker suit and red bow tie missed a whole season of use last year, as I whiled away the time with other matters. I like this photo because it shows a neat way to incorporate Easter candy into a party favor arrangement. I like the little jars with pink ribbon. I don't know if I would do that myself,...

To be honest, I thought I had already written a blog on the cinnamon bears that I had eaten in the past, but I guess that was one of those candies that I just ate without writing a blog… oops. Since this is the second kind of cinnamon bear that I’ve eaten, it’s virtually...
The other day, I had the good fortune to communicate with Gary Duschl who holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the LONGEST chain made out of gum wrappers. I asked Gary if he would share his experience with the readers of our candy blog and below is an excerpt from his reply. I find project amazing on many levels, both physically and metaphorically, and it is one of the more interesting uses for recycling candy/gum wrappers - Jon H.Prince, President, CandyFavorites.com I started the gum wrapper chain on March 11, 1965 while a student in the ninth grade....

C Howards (or, as some call it, Chowards) has just released a quiry new Guava Flavored Candy to compliment classics such as Violet Mints One of the older retro candy stalwarts, C. Howard Company Inc. was started by Charles Howard of New York City in the early 1930s . Mr. Howard, in search of a "uniqueand different flavored candy," concocted a delightful confectionery mint called "Choward's Violet" in a small industrial loft on Broadway. Howard's first retailing experience was selling "Choward's Violet" on the street corners of Manhattan, where the product's reputation grew. On the heels of "Choward's Violet" success,...
Becca Droz shares with us the logic nd the ratings system on our Candy Blog So I have been using this self-created rating system for every candy I have blogged about and I realized I never really explained what each category really means. I apologize. Please, let me clear things up for you. Sharability refers to how easy the candy is to share. A low sharability is earned either by an extremely tasty candy that you wouldn’t want to share or a candy that is just difficult to share such as a lollypop. Denture Danger rates a candy on how...

A vintage Baby Ruth Candy Bar advertisement from when the company was owned by Curtis Candy Company Sharability: 3 Denture Danger: 9 Convenience: 5 Novelty: 9 Overall: 8 As a kid, candies with nuts in them always detracted me. I don’t know if I thought nuts were too healthy to be in candy, or if I didn’t like crunch, but all I know now is that with my maturing taste buds I can’t complain about peanuts in my candy. As described on the wrapper, each Baby Ruth is “bursting with peanuts, rich caramel, and chewy nougat.” A bite of a...

Brach's Malted Milk Balls aka Brach's Malts Brach's Malted Milk Balls aka Brach's Malts have been a favorite of candy lovers for many years. The candy was made with delicious rich milk chocolate and had a crunchy malt center. In recent months, the taste has changed and many think that it has not been for the better. We contacted Customer Service at Brach's Candy (a subsidiary of Farley's & Sathers) and they graciously replied as follows: "Farley's & Sathers made an adjustment to this product formula. We will be evaluating consumer reactions and responses to the changes in this product...
Candy, it can be chewy or crunch, sour or sweet, gummy or hard, it can be any color, any shape, any thing. I’m Becca, I'm 19 and just like you, I’m a candy lover. I am going to eat, rate, research, and write blogs about candies from candyfavorites.com to help you decide what candies to buy. Before I start the candy munching there are a few things that I want to share with you about candy. Throughout my years of candy eating I have learned something that every candy lover should know. Candy is meant to be shared. Along with...

Brachs has not announced whether they plan to reintroduce this product at a later date
Should it become available again, it will surely be added to the lineup on CandyFavorites.com
(from Favor Ideas) So — you've caught the candy buffet bug. You're not alone. More and more brides want to see a tower of sweets at their reception. Motives differ: some like how buffets allow guests to hunt and pick according to their personal sweet tooth. Others like the fairytale flavor. Candyland, Babes in Toyland, Willy Wonka: some of our earliest dreams of abbondanza involve forests where gumdrops hang from trees, chocolate runs in rivers and pillars are peppermint sticks. But just as with Hansel and Gretel, there's a catch to the candy buffet. Namely? Pulling off a successful one...
It seems that everywhere I go, I see Easter candy. I use this term loosely, for these days I classify anything wrapped in pastel colors as being “Easter.” These days M&M’s come in lavender and Reese Peanut Butter Cups are wrapped in green; and they’re everywhere. No matter how much pink, yellow, and light blue I see, the candy that represents this quintessential moment in spring the best are marshmallow chicks – Peeps. These colorful and squishy chicks have been around for decades. Ever since its debut in the 1920s, they have become an important part of Spring tradition. I...
I am not a fan of big changes, especially when I’m comfortable with the current state of people, things, and situations. I’m wary when my favorite restaurant hands me a new menu. It even bothered me when Bazooka gum and Cracker Jacks both changed their original packaging. Sure they still taste the same, but why change something that’s been working for ages? Although I am resistant to change, one change in an existing product line both interested and enlightened me, so that even I have to admit this is an improvement of something that was already great. Let me introduce...

While surfing through the McKeesport Candy Co. website I found the Retro Candy Gift Pack, all of which comes straight and direct from the hazy days of my childhood. The late 80s and early 90s were, for this twenty-something, the pinnacle of sugary achievement. This pack includes it all, but I'm going to focus on a few particular items which deserve attention all on their own. 1. Candy Jewelry Is there a single girl out there who didn't love wearing candy jewelry? Heck, I'll still wear a candy necklace from time to time with a T-shirt, just as a fun...
Valentine’s Day has become a commercial phenomenon. Since 1381, when Geoffrey Chaucer first recorded February 14 to be a day of recognition, this day of love has been celebrated around the globe. Its relatively unknown counterpart is Singles Awareness Day (SAD), also known as Black Day. It is a day for singles to celebrate, or un-celebrate, their independence. Just like the Emo psyche is misunderstood and overshadowed by the teen pop idols, Valentine’s Day has outshone Black Day, which is why I am taking if upon myself to list a few gift ideas for the celebrators of this day. Black...
As most of the visitors to CandyFavorites.com know, we are offering the exclusive Hershey's Pink Candies in support of Young survival Coalition. The available candies are Hershey Kisses, Dark Chocolate Nuggets and, my personal favorite, York Peppermint Patties
We are donating $3 per every purchase of four (4) bags and supplies are running low....
Not only are these benefitting a great cause but it is a joy to sell a product that tastes good and, hopefully, helps make the world a better, sweeter place
At every bachelorette party, the gag gifts are inevitable. In fact, it's usually one of the best parts, besides that fireman stripper of course. Well I have found what is probably the most useful (not to mention yummy) gag gift. It's the penis candy necklace. It's pretty much the same as a regular candy necklace, but instead of the little circles, you get penises. Now of course there are usually some sort of penis gag gifts in the bags already. But normally they don't taste this good! Which is why they are the most useful gag gift. Of course...
As most of you can probably tell, I love chocolate. And by love I mean I would marry it if marriage to an edible object was ever made legal. There are just so manys kinds of chocolate. Dark chocolate, white chocolate, and my personal favorite, milk chocolate. But I try not to discriminate, as all chocolate is wonderful. So it has recently come to my attention that almost anything covered in chocolate is better than the thing itself. I mean pretzels are great, but so much better when chocolate covered. Raisons are ok, but put them in chocolate and...
One of my favorite things about candy in the whole world is something that goes on in your head, something that only works when you're eating candy. It has to do with perception of flavor. What's this you ask? Is the Candy Critic using big words? You better believe it. You see I love cherries; I could eat a hundred of them. I'll eat so many cherries that many parts of my body protests and violently disagree with the amount of cherries I've consumed and really let me know it. The thing is I love cherry flavored candies too. When...
I always feel like when I write a blog for the Candyblog that I'm complaining, maybe I just use this place to vent. Well today is really going to be no different. Whenever I tell people that I'm the Candy Critic they always ask if I do chocolate too. I think chocolate is candy so, yes I do. I tell them that I also do chips and the occasional cookie as well. Then most people tell me that those aren't candy at all. Well I'm here to tell you that these people are probably right, by definition. But I started...
There is nothing like a complete sugar rush. I'll admit, it's been a while. Getting a sugar rush usually relates with being a kid, but I think adults could so with a sugar rush every so often too! So what is the best candy for a sugar rush you ask? It's something that you probably ate as a kid. They aren't as popular now what with all the new fangled sugar candy around. But as they say, oldies are goodies! It's all about the Pixy Stix! There's nothing better than ripping off the top and pouring all that flavored sugar...
Hello candy lovers! I have to apologize for the lack of updates. I had some technical difficulties for the past week, and by technical difficulties I mean evil computer viruses. They left me internetless for a week! On average I spend about 75% of my day online. So this was a big blow for me. I needed some comfort. So what did I do? I turned to candy of course. An old friend that helped me make it through the tough times. Yes those miniature Reeses cups were there for me. With their sweet chocolate outer layer, and creamy peanut...
I just finished trying an interesting snack, I took a look at the package and it said contains real and artificial ingredients. Now I've talked about this about 100 times on Candy Critic, for the most part I don't mind the idea of artificial flavors in candy. In fact I'm a big fan of some of the artificial flavors out in the world. I'm able to make the distinction in my mind that when a package says cherry flavored it might not really taste like cherries. The part that gets me thought is those treats that say they have both....
This one is for all the college students out there. Well actually, anyone who has a lot of studying or reading to get through. So you've decided to tackle a few chapters of Organic Chemistry today, or perhaps some Shakespeare for your English Lit class. Whatever the case, you have a daunting task ahead of you. So you ask yourself, is there any way to make this more bearable?? Well sure, there is the popular solution of reading two pages and then giving up. But that really doesn't help you does it? Well I have found a solution! I've tried...
I always loved Candy Buttons as a kid. The pink, yellow, and blue little drops of sugar on paper. They tasted great and always gave you energy! Plus they were small, so you could get away with eating a lot of them. But as time passed I was introduced to new and exciting candy, and I forgot about the Candy Buttons. They were old-fashioned. This Christmas my three year old cousin came to visit. Among her gifts of Disney Princesses and videos, my mom put in a package of Candy Buttons. My cousin was so excited! She had some before...
One of the things people assume is that the Candy Critic knows all. Well maybe not all but they assume I know of every candy ever made and that's just not possible. Most people don't really get the chance to live in many places, or even shop in that many places. When you travel often you stay in resorts or tourist areas that cater to the idea that people like snacks from their own country. Rarely do people take the time to look into a local grocery store for snacks, nor do I blame them either. I mean if I'm...
Happy New Year candy lovers!! I'm sure everyone is out celebating, unfortunately I have a virus so I'm in bed thinking about resolutions. Every year people make the same resolutions. Go to the gym. Finish a book. Save more money. And every year people break this resolutions about a week into the new year. So I have come up with a new plan. I have found a resolution that I think is much easier to keep then anything listed above. Once a week (or month depending on your budget) try a new candy. It can be anything. Even if you...
Merry Christmas and happy holidays candy lovers! Hopefully you all received some sweet treats this holiday season. I know I did. I spent the past few days baking dozens and dozens of cookies. And of course eating them as well! After making so many different kinds of cookies, I have decided which one is the ultimate holiday cookie. Before I tell you, I of course have to list all the competition. I made yummy chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, peanut butter cookies with a hershey kiss in the middle, and butter cookies in holiday shapes with sprinkles. Now ALL of...
My roommates and I have a weekly tradition. Every week when we go grocery shopping, we buy a bag of chocolate to eat for the week. Last week, my roommate got miniature Hershey Smores bars. None of us had ever tried them before, so we thought why not? They were pretty good. Milk chocolate, marshmellow, and graham cracker bits. But something was definitely missing. We finished the bag off in a week, and we of course enjoyed them thoroughly. But I decided that they just couldn't compare to REAL smores. You know, a graham cracker bottom, a piece of a...
So I've been at this whole "Candy Critic" thing for a few years now and I've put a whole lot into it. I've traveled around, harassed people that travel to buy me candy and eaten things I don't even want to talk about. One of my travels took me to the National Candy Expo in Chicago, don't even try and go because you have to be invited. But it does exist, a convention completelly dedicated to the love of candy, or so thought. You see the candy industry is a billion dollar machine; these fun little snacks we eat are...
I spent the summer after my senior year of high school in Africa. Everyone thought I was nuts. I was giving up my last summer of freedom to live in a tent without showers or bathrooms. I had to get multiple shots and take malaria pills for a total of three months. And of course the food situation was different. There were about 20 of us that went, and we each had to carry 30 pounds of food in our backpacks. There was no room for candy or chocolate. I spent the majority of the summer working with AIDS orphans....
One of the biggest complaints I get about candy critic is people calling something that I review not candy. Chips are the biggest complaint, people tell me all the time that I shouldn't review chips or salty snacks. I don't know about that, I think chips are candy; the national confectioners association has chips at their All Candy Expo. I say chips are candy, just because it's not sweet doesn't make it not candy. People have to open their minds a little and realize that just because it's not a lollypop or a mint, it's still candy. If you where...
Candy is a staple of holidays. Of course Halloween being the biggest. But then there is also tons of candy around for Christmas, Easter and the 4th of July. So why is it that there isn't Thanksgiving candy? Everyone always talks about the turkey, the potatoes, the cranberry sauce, the stuffing, and the pumpkin pies. But what about candy? Thanksgiving is unfortunately stuck between Halloween and Christmas. I guess people thought the Halloween candy could hold them over until Christmas. But personally, I don't think its fair. Thanksgiving is a great holiday, and it should get attention from the candy...
At Rochester Institute of Technology you would assume all the learning happens in the confines of the classroom or the computer lab. But for Halloween, the Residence Life and Student Health Center staff decided to bring the education directly to the students in their residence hall rooms and apartments. We used candy and some catchy names to educate our students about Sexually Transmitted Infections (formally known as STD's or VD's). The staff dressed up in their costumes and went "reverse trick-or-treating" to each room and apartment delivering a bag of goodies. Each bag contained a statistics card with a picture...
What's new? People always ask me what my favorite candy is. It makes sense, having tried hundreds of different treats from all over the world and written about them I can understand why that's the most common question. The thing that isn't common is my answer. Sure I've got a top ten list on Candy Critic number one being Kit Kat, but is that really my favorite treat? No, what I crave is something different, something I've never tried before, it doesn't even have to taste that great, I just need a change. That's kind of how Candy Critic started;...
Do you remember when candy used to cost 5 cents or less? I do, which actually makes me feel old. But nevertheless, its another good family memory. I think being home for a wedding this past weekend is what spawned my overabundance of childhood memories. But it's always good to remember happy times from the past. My grandma had a little shore house in Sea Isle. Once a year, my family would stay down there for a few days. I have a lot of memories from that shore house. But my favorite memory is the little convenience store that was...
Ok we've all had Butterfingers before. Maybe at Halloween, or from a store, or perhaps from a vending machine. But whatever the case, I know you've all had one. Unless you are allergic to peanut butter, in which case, don't eat one. Now I have always enjoyed Butterfingers. They are tasty! Chocolate and peanut butter~ yum! But I am here to tell you that I have discovered something better. *GASP* Yes, better than the Butterfinger. But it is still related to the Butterfinger. In fact, I would call them sisters! I saw it for the first time yesterday on my...
In honor of this mornings snow flurries, I felt the need to post about my favorite Christmas holiday candy. Much like candy corn reminds me of Halloween, this candy always brings me into the Christmas spirit! What is white, red, and sticky all over? CANDY CANES!!! Christmas is without a doubt my favorite holiday. I love the spirit of it all. So much love all around (ok not counting the family get togethers!). But candy canes are what really capture the spirit of Christmas. When I think about Christmas, I think about little kids running around with candy canes in...
Today I went to the craziest first birthday party that I've ever seen. There were tons of people and food. And there were two birthday cakes. Yes, two! The first was a big cake that had a picture of beautiful baby Jordan on it. The second one was a smash cake, and it was all for Jordan. He sat in his high chair in front of this cake and dug in with his little fingers. Naturally, not all of the icing and cake made it into little Jordan's mouth. In fact, a lot of it was on his face, in...
You've all been there. That person that you just want to kill sometimes, but you still love them. Ok well I'm applying this concept to candy. Not just any candy. I'm talking about THE candy. You see this candy and the first thought in your head is Halloween. With Halloween fast approaching, I thought this would be a good topic to discuss. So without further ado (drum roll please)... Candy Corn!!! Yes I'm talking about the tiny yellow, orange, and white candies. I love them, I really do. Not only are they yummy, but they really put you in the...
That is the question. And no I'm not talking about wax strips, I'm talking about wax lips and wax fangs. Always a favorite for kids around halloween. I, myself, have had both in the past. However, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about them. Yes of course they are always fun to wear and make faces with. I particularly enjoyed trying to kiss people with the big wax lips as a child. The fangs were even better in my opinion for halloween. The finishing touch on a nice vampire costume. Of course the trick was not to eat your...
I was watching my favorite TV show, Lost, the other day. In the short version, a plane crashes on a mysterious island and strands about 48 survivors with no food. After more than a month on the island, the female lead finds an underground room that is filled with food. She goes straight for a chocolate bar. As I watched that I thought, I would totally do the same thing! What is it about chocolate that makes women go weak in the knees? I asked a few people what they thought. Here is what they had to say! "It makes...
What will they think of next.... Masterfoods USA just released M&M's in Dark Chocolate to coincide with the new episode of Star Wars... The M&M's come in dark chocolate peanut as well as plain and they are quite good ( I would be remiss if I didn't add that I have a weakness for dark chocolate) Although supposedly a limited edition, you can easily collect seventy two different collector's pack. They are unique and if you love dark chocolate and M&M's, my advice is to get your hands on as many as possible! To try the Dark Chocolate Plain M&M's,...
Good question and we hope not!
According to CandyBusiness magazine, "Ragolds will close it's doors at year's end... Best known in recent years for it's Juiceful's brand with liquid fruit juice centers....the closing is "unavoidable" as its long term financial outlook is poor..."
We have not been able to confirm this report but surely hope that this candy favorite is not discontinued...
