Summer's not without hikes, sunscreen, swimming pools, and snacks. The best summer snack of all is trail mix. The best part of the trail mix is the candy. I always pick it out and eat it first. It's one of my worst habits, but I can't help myself. It's the best part.
I had to put together the perfect trail mix to celebrate summertime. Everyone has different tastes, so my ideal mix will differ from yours.
However, there is a recipe that everyone can follow to create their perfect combination.
The perfect trail mix starts with a good base consisting of your favorite cereal + a pretzel of your choosing, + the perfect popcorn.
This recipe is customizable. You can add or subtract each recipe aspect depending on your preferences.
The next step is adding mix-ins such as nuts and dried fruit.
This could be any array of different nuts or a bunch of them in combination. The same goes for dried fruit.
Be creative, as there are no rules about what you can or can not add!
We saved the best part of the trail mix for last, the toppings!
You should put in your three favorite candies (or more if you have a serious sweet tooth) for toppings.
I chose Reese's Pieces, Raisinettes, and Fudge Brownie M&M's for my combination. As any self-professed candy lover will know, CANDY is what takes trail mix to the "next level.".
Different candies can bring out different flavors and textures; your mixture may become boring without candy, but as you know, we are biased towards candy on this end of the digital divide.
Another trail mix recipe I tried out was Hershey's S'mores Trail Mix.
I started with a similar base with my favorite cereal + pretzels. Then I added broken-up graham crackers to the base instead of popcorn.
For mix-ins, I added mini marshmallows and pieces of broken-up Hershey Bars for the toppings. This trail mix was incredibly delicious and easy to take S'mores on the go.
Trail Mix is the perfect snack for summer, and adding our candies puts it over the top to be the best summer snack.
