Candy Gives Us More Than Just Sweetness … It Gives Sweet Memories

Share your favorite candy memories below and have a chance of winning an entire box of your favorite candy!

In honor of National Candy Month, my favorite month of the year, I reflected on all that candy has given me in my life. While many people see candy as a sweet treat, it is more than that. It has given me many smiles and also many memories.

My favorite candy, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (which I am sure many of you know already), is my favorite for a reason.

Yes, it tastes fantastic. Yes, it has an outstanding balance between peanut butter and chocolate. But it is more than that. The taste doesn’t just bring my tastebuds to great flavors but to great memories.

On road trips, when we stopped for gas, my mother would get out of the car and return with numerous different Reese products, almost none being the classic cup.

I’ve had Reese’s Fast Break, Reese’s Nutrageous, Reese’s Snack Cake, Reese’s Sticks, Reese’s Take Five, and so much more.

Trying all different kinds of Reese’s candies grew my love for their original product, making it my favorite. My brother also loved Reese’s growing up, and through that, I was also influenced.

At CandyFavorites, we believe that candy is an easy way to connect with sweet childhood memories.

These memories make Reese’s that much sweeter when I bite into them, making them my favorite candy. So many candies are delicious, but these are my favorite because of the love and memories they hold.

I have my favorite candies, and everyone else has their own.

With these favorite candies are stories. With these stories come different flavors for the sweets.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups taste different for me than it would for you.

They taste like “movies on the road,” “looking out the windows as the trees blur together,” and time spent with those I love. They are the taste of my childhood!

So when people tell me they don’t like Reese’s, I don’t understand.

Not because I don’t know that they might hate peanut butter (although that is also hard to comprehend) but because without this beloved combination of milk chocolate and peanut butter, I would not have those experiences. I would miss out on those sweet moments that Reese’s made.

Going to the corner store at lunchtime with a dime and getting a bunch of malted balls, licorice pinwheels, soda caps and soo much more into a little brown bag. Then going back to school and swapping candies with the other kids. Great memories!

I went to a one room school when I was in elementary school. Since those who lived nearby were allowed to go home for lunch a student whose family owned a small store would take orders for candy. I once was given 25 cents (not to be spent at one time) and I spent the whole thing on penny candies. The very candies that you sell. I got a large bag of candy for my 25 cents. A very sweet memory

What a great memory! If only penny candies still cost a penny!

My favorite candy from childhood, is and will always be SweeTarts. Whether in the large roll, in the giant size, jawbreaker bag on in the lollipop style, SweeTarts is the one. JollyRanchers and Smarties just second.

No arguments with your favorite candies…;) Sweetarts are classic. Always have been, hopefully, always will be!

My candy memory is: At age 10-ish, mom and dad at work but gave permission to ride my bike, with a few friends, out of the neighborhood on a couple busy streets, about a mile to 7-11. Going in with a buck 50 and coming out with a sack of stuff. Gum cigarettes as big as a real cigarette, for a penny. Abba-Zabba, Razzles (chewy candy that turned into gum), footlong Charleston Chews, Neccos, Candy necklaces/bracelets, so many more!

What a great memory! It seems like yesterday when it was safe to ride bikes on the street and a $1.50 could get you a large bag of candy! The candies you mentioned are classics!

I remember going to the corner store in New York with a quarter and getting a bag of now and laters, or jolly ranchers. If I had a dollar I would get both of them and sour straws and swedish fish. I would eat on them all day in school and at bedtime.

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 10:03 am

In the old days, a quarter went a long way and gone is the day of the true “penny candy.” The good news is that many of the candies you mentioned are still available and still taste as good as they did many years ago!

Also my favorite is any kind of chocolate

My favorite childhood candies were Kits and BB Bats. Not many people are familiar with those anymore, but I used to sneak them to school everyday. Tiny in size but big in flavor. Not to mention the Black Cows. Now those candies brings back memories.

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 10:01 am

When Kits and BB Bats were discontinued a few years ago, many candy lovers were VERY sad! The good news is that Black Cows are still available. They may be slightly different – they no longer have a sticker that makes them a lollipop – but they taste as good as they ever did! Thank You for sharing your memory!

Licorice snaps have been my favorite since i was a child. They went away for awhile but when they returned me and my siblings were over the moon. thanks for bringing them back.

We are glad Licorice Snaps are back, if only for a short while. They brign back so many memories and are one of the harder to find candies well worth the effort to find!

Im leaving this memory on behalf of my mom. She loves licorice, in fact her mom, my grandmother used to eat snaps when she was younger so naturally when my mom eats snaps she has fond memories of her mom. I think its great that your company offers them, I just sent my mom 3 Lbs of snaps as a surprise. My mom is 88 and i know this will make her day.

This a great memory and there is nothing better than doing something nice for our parents. Licorice Snaps bring back so many memories and the good thing is that they are still available to create new ones!

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 9:59 am

There is nothing nicer than being able to do something nicer for our parents. Licorice Snaps have been part of the “candy landscape” for many decades and the good thing is that they are still available to help create new memories! Thanks for sharign your memory!

When I was 7 (1961) I would wait for the fruit and veggie salesman to come by in a converted bus. He always had penny candy for sale. I would get my favorite, peanut butter bars.

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 9:54 am

Peanut Butter Bars, although a bit smaller, are still an tried and true classic!

My favorite childhood candy was a two-in-one: a sucker and gum! Yes, I’m talking about Blo-Pops. I love chewing gum, and the sweetness/tartness of the sucker was a delicious way to get to the gum!

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 3:28 pm

Doesn’t get much better thn a Blo-Pop! Two for the price of one and delicious too!

My favorite candy and memory is Zero Candy Bars. When I was a youngster my Mom would let me take my bicycle and ride by myself about a mlie down the road to the nearest small locally owned store , (what is now called a convenience store), and buy myself a Zero candy bar. It was about 3 time as big as they are now and they kept them in the refrigerator so they were nice and cold in the summer time. Brings back a lot of other memories also.

    • Reply Jonah Half June 14, 2023 at 3:27 pm

Zero Bars are truly classic candy bars! Like so many thigns, candy esepcially, the size may have gotten a bit smaller but the good news is they are still available to bring back memories and make new ones!
