Few candies have such a diverse pedigree as Whoppers. The first chocolate-covered malted milk ball, called Giants, was introduced in 1939 by the now-defunct Overland Candy Company.
Eight years later, this company merged with the Chicago Biscuit Company (also defunct) and Leaf Gum, and it wasnโt until 1949 that their name was changed to Whoppers.

In the 1960s, Leaf Brands sold all of its confectionery products to WR Grace and then repurchased the brand in 1976!
The story of Whoppers doesn't end in 1976 because, in 1996, Hershey Foods purchased Leaf North America and began to manufacture Whoppers!
