Creating an amazing wholesale candy buffet?

What is a Candy Buffet?

A candy buffet is a sweet addition to your wedding reception.  Guests can choose among candies to take home in treat bags/containers.    Candy buffets offer sweet treats that your guests will enjoy and blend in beautifully since you can design a display to fit any theme or a specific color.  Candy buffets are used instead of party favors and are a great conversation piece for guests who can mingle with old friends while making new ones!

Should I hire someone to create the candy buffet or do it myself?

Candy buffets can be assembled quickly on your own.  Of course, at your event, you will want someone to look over the candy buffet to clean up spills and replenish empty bowls; but if you ask an aunt or a friend, they will be happy to assist.

Should I use a spoon, tongs, or scoop?

Ladles are typically not a good idea because the mouth of the spoon is usually pretty deep,  and after a couple of scoops, your candy will be gone.  Always use tongs with gummy candy, sticky candy, or whole pieces of candy such as licorice twists.  It’s best to use smaller-sized non-metal scoops to make your candy last longer and lessen the chance of chipping glass bowls.

What kind of containers should I use?

 Containers can be made from large jars, glass bowls (even those goldfish bowls), and wooden salad bowls.  Be creative if you want to make it fun, and try not to use lids (they take up valuable candy buffet space). 

Where can I buy containers?

Containers can be bought at Retail Stores (Target, Kmart, etc.), thrift stores, antique shops, and even yard sales!  To make your glass jars shiny, try dabbing a cloth in vinegar and wiping them off.

Should I leave the wrappers on the candy?

If you have individually wrapped candy such as ring pops, Hershey’s Kisses, and root beer barrels, do not unwrap them.  If you want to include cotton candy, these can be propped up in a bowl with M&M’s or rock candy - and ALWAYS wrap them in a cellophane bag.

A friend had a candy buffet at her wedding, and there were labels on the jar.  Is that necessary?

It’s a good idea because some people have allergies and need to avoid specific candies and ingredients. The old saying goes, " An ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure," or "forewarned is forearmed."

Can you provide me with a list of ingredients for the candy?  I am worried about food allergies.

Unfortunately, we cannot do this.  We are a wholesale distributor and not the manufacturer.  If you have a guest with food sensitivities,  we suggest you contact the particular manufacturer for the necessary information.

What are some ways that I can decorate my candy buffet?

Only you set the limits! Use a decorative table cloth and wrap a few bowls with a ribbon.  Candles and framed pictures are great additions.  Consider something cute scrolled on a standing chalkboard or typed up and framed, such as a message that reads: 

• Life is Short ~ Eat Candy

• Love is Sweet ~ Take a Treat

• Grab a Bag ~ Choose What You Like ~ Leave Some for Others ~ Please be Polite

• Grab a Bag ~ Take Some Treats ~ Enjoy the Sugar ~ Because Life is Sweet

• Grab a Bag and Help Yourself to the Candy Buffet ~ It’s Our Way of Saying Thank You for Sharing Our Special Day

• You don’t want to overload your candy buffet with decoration since you don't want to distract from the candy!

When should I shop for my candy buffet?

It’s always best to shop early.  We put together a guide on how to store candy properly, which can be found under our Candy Countdown link.  Please remember that most heart-shaped candy is seasonal (for Valentine's Day in February), so if you want this for a fall or winter event, then purchase the candy in early February.
