Here at CandyFavorites.com, we've been selling candy to movie theaters since 1927 — that's almost a century of sweet snacks and silver-screen magic!
We have been around for almost 100 years, and while we would love to say that we have been selling candy to theaters even before there was sound, alas, that isn't exactly true.
What is true is that we have been selling candy to movie aficionados and theaters for quite some time and have experienced numerous technological changes, almost too numerous to mention!
From the tail end of Hollywood's "Golden Age" to the first James Bond Film - almost every generation of McKeesport Candy Co. owners are enormous fans of Britain's most famous secret agent who, ironically, never existed - to today's streaming giants, our candy has been there through it all — cheering on the stars, sweetening up date nights, and helping moviegoers survive suspenseful scenes without biting their nails - just their Milk Duds!
In the early days before we opened our doors, movies were silent, black and white, and accompanied by live piano. People dressed to the nines to see Charlie Chaplin wobble across the screen, and yes, they munched on candy classics like Goobers, invented in 1925, and Raisinettes, which came on the scene - yes, we almost said "screen" - a year later!
Then came "talkies" in the late 1920s, and audiences were floored. But the candy? Still, center stage, and many of the candies enjoyed by theatergoers - and those with home theaters - are still available almost a hundred years later!
Over the years, we've seen the magic of Technicolor, the awe of widescreen cinemascope, the rise of 3D glasses, surround sound, IMAX screens taller than buildings, the interruption caused by pagers and then mobile phones, and now — the quiet hum of a projector replaced by home theaters and streaming queues.
But through all that change, one thing stayed constant: CANDY!
Whether you're sneaking a box of Swedish Fish into the latest blockbuster - we don't encourage or discourage this and will leave it up to your judgement - sharing Sour Patch Kids on the couch, or reliving the magic of your favorite childhood flick, we are proud still to be your go-to source for movie theater candy - or ANY candy for that matter - since before stale popcorn stole the spotlight.
Here's a fun fact - We have sold candy that has been featured in many television and movie shows, including Breaking Bad, Mad Men, August Wilson's "Fences" as well as the new upcoming film on Milton Hershey, which was filmed in Pittsburgh last month!
