When thinking of topics for Let's Learn About Candy, many candies come to mind - after all, we offer over 3000 varieties - but few are as beloved as Gummi Peach Rings.
The combination of peach flavor, a round shape, and two vibrant colors made this an instant classic!
They have long been one of our best-selling bulk candies, and they are among the Top 10 best-selling items in our private label bag candy.
Despite their many claims to fame, the origins of these candies are somewhat mysterious. Let's take a trip back in time to the early 1900s.
As many gummi candy lovers know, it was Hans Riegel, of Haribo fame, who introduced the world to the joys of sweet and squishy candy in the form of the Gold (Gummi or Gummy depending on how you spell it as there is no "correct" spelling) Bear. There is, however, an unsubstantiated claim that he also invented the peach ring.
As to when, or for that matter, where the idea for a gummi peach flavor came to be will always be open for debate, but we first started offering them in the early 1980s, and there is some rumor that they have been around for much longer in Europe.
Unlike Haribo, whose claim to ongoing fame began with a Gummi Bear, numerous manufacturers such as Albanese and Trolli, to name but a few, have produced peach rings, each in its unique way.
Although not as old as many of the candies featured in this sweet tribute section, one thing is sure, and that is that peach rings are a candy destined to withstand the test of time rightfully!
