DeMets Original Turtles were introduced in the early 1920's by Rowntree DeMet's Inc., a candy company located in the United Kingdom.
DeMet's Original Turtles got its name when an employee at the chocolate factory remarked that the new candy, with pecans protruding from its side, "looked like a turtle." Because of the candy's reptile looks, when Nestlé acquired Rowntree DeMet's Inc. in 1988 they later changed the name to NESTLÉ® TURTLES.
