Freshen Up Gum

It is hard to believe that Freshen Up Gum was controversial for its unique flavor formula – it was the first gum to have a liquid gel center “with a burst of flavor” which in 1975, was truly avant-garde – and for an unfortunate happenstance that occurred a year after it swept the nation.
In 1976, an explosion occurred at an assembly plant, owned by Warner Lambert, where the gum was being manufactured which resulted in the death of several employees. Time passed and this unfortunate event faded into collective memory and now Kraft Foods owns the brand.
Over 35 years later, we have seen many liquid filled chewing gums come and go but, honestly, few measure up to the great taste and novelty value of the original. Isn't that so often the case?
