Junior Mints were created in the 1940's by the James Welch Company, manufacturers of iconic American candies such as Welch's Fudge (no longer being manufactured) and Sugar Babies

Industry lore has it that the name derives from Sally Benson stories featured in New Yorker Magazine that were collected into a book called JUNIOR MISS, made into a theatrical play, and then a radio show
