Orange Marshmallow Peanuts are one of the oldest American candies.
Marshmallow Peanuts were introduced in the mid 1800's and were one of the first penny candies. The first Marshmallow Peanuts were orange and it wasn't until the 1900's and the invention of food coloring that multicolored ones became available.
These are also known as "Circus Peanuts" although no one is sure as to how that nickname was derived.

Circus Peanuts will always remind me of my dad. They are probably the very first candy that my siblings and I were introduced to. Being such a soft candy it was easy for my dad to break off pieces and feed us when were were toddlers.
