I remember when I was young living in an isolated cul de sac that consisted mainly of older couples. We were the only family with children---7 of us---on the entire block. Being from such a large family, we didn't get chocolate treats very often. I looked forward to Halloween trick-or-treating, because that meant CANDY & possibly my favorite---chocolate Hershey bars!
Just about everyone else on the block had children who were grown or were retirees & had more money than we did as a family of 9. Many of these neighbors knew of our situation & went out of their way to make trick-or-treating special for us... & that meant CHOCOLATE. Just about every house we visited treated us with a full-sized Hershey bar! We learned to know which houses to expect this delectable treat to be given out at & made it a point to trick-or-treat in full costume at those specific houses.
We may not have gotten the MOST candy, but we got the BEST! I couldn't wait to get home, dig into my bag & taste one of those chocolately delicious bars made by Hershey's! I recall going to school the next school day with a Hershey bar in my brown bag lunch.The other kids had mounds of Bazooka bubble gum, Pixie sticks & Smarties....all of which I also liked but not anywhere near as much as I loved Hershey's...so I wasn't about to trade desserts with anyone!
As a result of these fine childhood memories, I now serve Hershey Almond bars or plain Hershey chocolate bars to all my little trick-or-treaters & hope that I am remembered as " the house that gave out the GOOD candy!" Thank you, Hershey's for his wonderful childhood memory & for helping me make special Halloween memories for others!
