Bubble Yum is an innovative bubble gum and while bubble gum lovers are blowing bubbles and chomping away, they often overlook that Bubble Yum was the FIRST soft bubble gum introduced in 1975, over thirty five years ago. Prior to that fateful day, bubble gum had a harder consistency much like Bazooka.

So successful was this gum that a still unknown competitor leaked a rumor that spider eggs were responsible for the softness. Alas, we all know that this urban legend is not true but it took hundreds of thousands of dollars and a full page ad in the New York Times to lay this misconception to rest. It brings to mind what the famed novelist  Sir Walter Scott once said,  "Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive.”  Learn more about this repulsive rumor here.

The original manufacturer of Bubble Yum was Life Savers (yes, the company whose claim to fame is the roll with the hole) and it was just a matter of time until Bubble Yum became more popular than their main product!

Over the years, Nabisco also owned this brand and it is owned by Hershey which makes good sense as they own most of iconic candy brands putting Bubble Yum in good company.
