Discontinued Candy

Discontinued Candy

We at CandyFavorites love candy, so you shouldn't find it surprising that we memorialize the candies that are no longer with us (rest their souls). But with the help of our Discontinued Candy page, they all live on in memory! So look at the list and see some oldies that have been put out to pasture. Remember the Chicken Dinner Candy Bar? How about Whistle Pops or Dr. Pepper Gum?Discontinued Retro Candy

We've been in business since 1927, so we’ve had the pleasure of selling almost all the candy on the list.  Amazingly, 65 percent of candy bars in production have been around for over 60 years.

Chances are, if you have stumbled upon this page, you are either looking for a long-lost favorite or for a beloved brand that exists only in sweet memories.

To put this in perspective, in 2021, Hershey introduced a candy bar called Whozeewhatzit, their first new candy bar in over a decade! In addition, some discontinued candies, such as Bonomo's Turkish Taffy,  have returned to the market after being unavailable for more than 20 years. We do love a comeback!

The amalgamation of the candy industry has caused many favorites to disappear. Post-pandemic, many candy brands have consolidated, and discontinued most of their products - Brach's is a good example as they produce only a handful of items - or simply went out of business.

Since the end of the pandemic, we have seen product lines discontinued faster than at any time in our over ninety-year history.  It's disheartening....

The good news is that new products are introduced, old brands are revitalized and the old mainstays continue to endure.

*In 2020, Boyer Candy Company purchased the Clark Bar formula, and the candy returned on Valentine's Day. The packaging is the same, but the recipe is different

** Atkinson Candy Company purchased the formula for Mary Janes in 2020.

1908 Candies, the makers of Alexander the Grape, Johnny Appleseed, and Mr. Melon ceased production in 2021, but we are unsure if this is temporary or permanent.

Believe it or not, in August 2020, we received notice that Goetze's Caramel Creams and Cowtale, in bulk, are unavailable due to a "temporary, but immediate suspension…until further notice." There is also a shortage of Swedish Red Fish.  We, too, thought the sky was falling.  Instead, during the pandemic of 2020 to 2022, we have seen the largest discontinuation of products in our 96-year history, with certain brands, such as Brach's, on the verge of extinction.

But let’s not focus on what we don’t have.

Click here to shop the thousands of candies we do have. After all, we are the oldest wholesale candy company in the United States and have been selling retro candy long before they were considered retro...
