How to Celebrate Thanksgiving With Your Favorite Retro Candy

November 11, 2016 by

When Thanksgiving comes around, there’s bound to be plenty of discussion about food. Especially if you’re the one tasked with hosting the event, we’re willing to bet that you are already up to your ears with ingredient lists and potential food ideas that will please the many varied taste buds that you’ll be welcoming around the dinner table.

While most people tend to stop their checklists at dessert, we feel that isn’t quite fair to the most important food group: candy, of course. Sure, pumpkin pie and turkey are Thanksgiving staples, but has anyone ever complained about a little bit of candy on the side? We don’t think so. And, if you’re as much of a candy lover as we are, then we would definitely support your motion to bring candy to the Thanksgiving table.

In fact, we’re so enthusiastic about this that we want to help you celebrate with your favorite retro candies. Sound like a plan? Then read on!

cherry-slices-unwrappedIf you fancy something that’s fruity and gummi, we highly recommend our Cherry Jelly Slices. These treats will give you a little taste of yesteryear with their endearing cherry flavor and their irresistible chewy-ness.

Your relatives may remember when these came onto the scene in the 1950’s, which will add an extra nostalgic boost. But even the ones too young to remember will definitely be able to satisfy their sweet tooth.

candy-buttons-neccoFor something a little more interactive, we’d recommend our Necco Candy House Candy Buttons. Once you get going on these, they can be quite addicting!

So whether you favor the pink or the blue buttons, we think everyone will agree that these are a great addition to your Thanksgiving table. The fact that they’re share-able makes them just that much better. Talk about a candy that gets the spirit of the holiday, right?

milkmaidcaramelsforwebOr, for a more classic taste, our Brach’s Milk Maid Caramels will go perfectly with your other holiday flavors. Plus, since they come in bulk, you really will have more than enough to go around.

These are just a few delicious retro treats that would be a welcome addition to your Thanksgiving spread. We have plenty of candies from days gone by, so feel free to take a look around! When you bring one of these sweet treats with you to Thanksgiving, you’ll have just one more reason to be thankful.

What resides in the center of your Milky Way? Simply Caramel

A Milky Way bar for those who can’t get enough caramel!

“I’m not a huge caramel fan, so my experience is jaded, but honestly it’s good”

“It’s like a Caramello log!”

It’s no surprise that Mars created the MilkyWay candy; this candy bar is out of this world! If you really try, you might even be able to find a resemblance between the evolution of the MilkyWay bar from the nougat-caramel combo to caramel-solo and the dynamic Milky Way galaxy.

  Milk Way Galaxy

Milk Way Galaxy

Between 100 and 400 billion stars paint what we see of the Milky Way galaxy and they say that there is at least one planet for every star! I have no idea how they create number estimates like these; who is counting how many of the hundreds of billions of stars?! It’s absolutely mind blowing, just like the Milky Way Simply Caramel!

In the center of this Milky Way is a thick and gooey, soft and satisfying caramel core, slightly less chaotic than the supermassive black hole that is theorized to reside in the center of our Milky Way galaxy. It is supposedly a hole that is four million times the mass of the sun (over a million earths fit inside the sun) where stars zoom around like leaking balloons in formation. If you close your eyes, you can let this caramel delight, take you on a flight into the supermassive black hole of the MilkyWay Simpy Caramel.

Don’t Forget About Cadbury Caramel Eggs

Cadbury Caramel Eggs are a yummy addition to the Cadbury candy lineup...

The other breed of Cadbury’s Eggs; the egg  filled with caramel.

Caramel, thick yet stringy; smooth yet sticky; like all things in life, the caramel inside of this milk chocolate coating is paradoxical. It is almost as stringy as the caramel inside of a Caramelo, but is much gloopier and thus leaves teeth prints when you bite into it.

For those of you who prefer the less intensely sweet taste, Cadbury’s Caramel Egg will probably be more satisfying than the original Crème filled egg. This caramel egg has only been around since 1994, well after the 1985 “How do you eat your Cadbury Egg” campaign began. The options with how to eat this egg can be explored in the same ways that you experimented with how to eat Cadbury’s Crème Egg for so many years.

You can go at it with a spoon, you can split it at the seam, you can bite from the top, fill the mouth, you can eat it with your eyes closed or crossed or you can share it bite for bite with someone you Love.

Easter feast just isn’t complete without a Cadbury Caramel Egg to cleanse the pallet for the Cadbury Crème Egg after the meal. The caramel and chocolate meld together as one magnificent, melty taste that will leave you lounging limp in your seat while your mind travels into the la la land of swirling tasty joy.

The Elusive Caramel Tootsie Roll Pop

I predict that this Limited Edition Caramel Tootsie Roll Pop won’t be limited for long. The caramel flavor is perfect for the Tootsie Roll Pop and I am just wondering what took them so long to create this flavor. In my humble opinion the caramel flavor is the tastiest flavor of all Tootsie Roll Pops.

I noticed that I don’t usually look at the Tootsie Roll Pop wrapper. Since I was treating this as a new candy I took a gander at the wrapper and there is a lot going on there.

Pictures of little kids playing with balls, swimming, playing tennis and marbles, driving cars, riding bikes and skateboards, if I didn’t know better I’d think that it was the wrapper of some sort of power bar for kids.

I guess the same kinds of kids that like to be active and play sports are the kinds of kids that like Tootsie Roll Pops.

Milky Way Simply Caramel offers a totally Caramel experience

Milky Way Simply Caramel Candy Bar offers a truly Caramel experience

In 1923, the first chocolate candy bar with a filled center was introduced and it was called Milky Way. In 2010, this iconic candy bar has a new relative called Milky Way Simply Caramel which is a great tasting candy bar aimed at lovers of Caramel Candies...

Did you know that the first chocolate bar with a filled center was the beloved Milky Way bar, made by Mars, which was created by Frank Mars in 1923. However consistent this candy bar has remained for over 87 years, it is important to note that note all Milky Way bars are created equal.

The Milky Way bar that is offered in the United States is a delicious amalgamation  of chocolate malt nougat topped with caramel and covered with rich milk chocolate BUT the Milky Way Bar offered on “distant shores” is not topped with caramel and is therefore similar to the American 3 Musketeers.

Confused? The Milky Ways sold in the United States is similar in taste to the Mars Bar sold in Europe.

Just when you think that you understand the subtle differences, Mars throws us a challenge with their new and delicious Milky Way Simply Caramel.

Unlike its siblings, this is identical throughout the world and, according to Masterfoods USA, it is “for consumers seeking a totally caramel experience” and is “tempting with rich, creamy caramel surrounded by real milk chocolate.”

It is a delicious new candy bar and there are few companies that can take a tried and tested classic and make it better as Masterfoods USA has done with Milky Way Simply Caramel

Squirrel Nut Zippers Caramels’ Uniqueness Compels

Squirrel Brands Salted Nut Company began in 1899. It changed hands and it changed locations, but the squirreliness never diminished. The company supplied chewy candies and salted and roasted peanuts to not only the general public of candy lovers, but also to the armed forces. In 2004 the Squirrel Nut Company took it’s last ownership change as it fell into the hands of NECCO.

The Squirrel Nut Caramel Candy is an individually wrapped rectangle of soft caramel with small pieces of peanuts mixed in for a slight crunch. The caramel is not as sticky as most caramels and thus does not annoyingly get stuck into the crevasses of your teeth.

Chocolate Squirrel caramel was the original flavor for the Squirrel Brands caramels. The caramels are a classic and are unique, and with that said, the candy need not be the tastiest candy in the land to be worthy of purchase.
