Ice Ice Baby: Brach’s Ice Blue Mint Coolers vs. Brach’s Starbrite Peppermint

Brachs Ice Blue Mint Coolers or Brach's Starbrite Mints - A tough choice....

We are sorry to announce that Brachs Ice Blue Mint Coolers have been DISCONTINUED as of April 2014.  Please share your comments below and we will forward them on to the manufacturer.

Sharability: 10

Denture Danger: 10  (unless you can resist the temptation to chew it)

Convenience: 10

Novelty: 8

Overall: 8

Brach’s Ice Blue Mint Coolers are an enjoyable and effective candy mint. They are great for many reasons. Firstly, they are blue. It isn’t often that you get a peppermint candy in a translucent blue color, quite aesthetically pleasing. Secondly, they are individually wrapped.

Forget the tic tacs that make it sound like you have a maraca in your pocket. These are conveniently wrapped so that you can throw them into your purse or pocket and munch one down before your date or job interview. Thirdly, you definitely get more of a breath mint effect from the ice blue mint than from the Starbrite peppermint.

The Starbrite peppermint is tasty and sweeter than the blue ice, but it doesn’t give you the same minty cool breath that the blue mint coolers do. Not to say blue mints are so intense that it hurts your teeth just to breathe.

If you want a mint for the primary purpose of eating a candy, choose the Starbrite peppermint (which would also great plopped in a cup of hot chocolate). If you want a mint for the primary purpose of having a minty fresh breath, go with the blue coolers. Enjoy!

I am thoroughly disappointed to hear you are discontinuing
Brach’s Ice Blue Mints. They have been a personal favorite of mine for many, many years. Not to mention, a staple item in my business. My clients and I are very unhappy.
Please reconsider your position on this.
    Sincerely,
    John W. Glessner

  2. Scott Woodworth says:

Is there any way that you could start making these ice blue mints again? They are the ONLY mints worth eating because they are so strong. The altoid mints are way to strong and are not enjoyable to eat unlike the ice blues, so I heavily petition that you bring these back. They are an absolute favorite to leave at church for the rest of the congregation to use when they need a mint. Please, Please get them back. Thanks!
    Scott

We are also very disappointed in the discontinuation of Brach’s Ice Blue Mints. If it were up to us, we would still be selling them. However, Brach’s decided to stop making the Ice Blue Mints so I would suggest petitioning them to bring back such a delicious mint. Thank you for your passionate plea!

  4. Mike says:

Please rethink discontinuing this wonderful mint. Since they helped get me through quitting smoking long ago, they have been a steady companion. I just love them. I used to keep a jar full on my desk. Down to my last 3: (

  5. Nick LaMorte says:

I find your decision to discontinue ice blue mints a great mistake. There is nothing on the market that comes close to these blue babies! Please reconsider and you won\’t be sorry.
    Thanks

I agree that there is nothing else that comes close to the flavor of the Brach’s Ice Blue Mints! If it were up to us, we would still be selling them. However, Brach’s decided to stop making the Ice Blue Mints so I would suggest petitioning them to bring back such a delicious mint. Thank you for your passionate plea!

I have used brach’s Ice Blue Mints for more than 20 years, and I would miss them terribly if you don’t consider making them again. As a business man, I don’t quite understand why you have decided to discontinue manufacturing them. If they sell well, then continue making them!!!.

  9. Elaine Downey says:

I too relied heavily on the Ice Blue’s when quitting smoking. I am still very shaky having only quit in January.
I would order 2-3 bags thru Candy Favorites every time I ordered, and now have been reduced to cleaning out every coat/jacket/purse, etc. I found about 25 and have been saving them for those moments when I really, really want a smoke.
Please don’t pull my ice blue rug out from under me.

  10. Jonah Half says:

Congratulations on quitting smoking!! We truly wish we could continue to carry Brach’s Ice Blue Mints. However, for some reason that is alluding us, Brach’s decided to stop making them. Since there have been so many people who miss these magnificent mints, we will contact Brach’s and attempt to persuade them to bring the Ice Blue Mints back.

  11. Lynn Gustafson says:

There was just no comparison between the Mint Coolers and Starbrite peppermints. The mint coolers last much longer and dont fall apart as they disolve. I just can’t believe that you would discontine the best mint hard candy that I have experienced. I just wish I had discovered this a month or two ago when I could still order them. Very disappointed.

  12. Jim F. says:

Why Brach’s elected to discontinue this awesome and refreshing candy is a mystery. Let’s hope some other candy company can replace what Brach’s has tossed aside!

  13. Jonah Half says:

We are also dissapointed that Brach’s decided to discontinue Ice Blue Mints. We have received so many complaints about it, we thought it would be best to try to find out why from the manufacturer (which now is Ferrara who bought Brach’s last year). This is the email reply we received back from Ferrara Candy:

“Thank you for contacting Ferrara Candy Company regarding Brach’s® Ice Blue Mint Coolers. Hearing from our consumers better enables us to continue to provide quality products and services. Consumer feedback is very important to us, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

We are happy to hear you enjoy our products! Unfortunately, this product is currently discontinued. Due to the high cost of production for specialty items and the lack of sales, we cannot justify the manufacturing of this item at this time. The cost to the consumer would not be in line with other items currently available. However, we do appreciate your comments!

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the availability of this product. I will share your comments with our marketing and research and development departments. This information will be helpful in our efforts to improve our current product offerings and in the development of new items.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your inquiry. Please visit our website at http://www.ferrarausa.com for additional information about our products and services.

    Sincerely,

    Mindy Ray
    Consumer Relations”

I hope this will help you understand what is happening with the Ice Blue Mints.

  14. I’m really upset your discontinuing the ice blue mint. A lot of my friends and I simply love these mints. I can’t find a mint anywhere else that is even close to it. I personally don’t have a problem paying a little more money for it and I am sure the people who really love this mint would either. One of my friends from Georgia even comes to Illinois and buys 2 big bags full to take back home with her. I myself and lots of other people would really wish you would not discontinue this product.

  15. Dick says:

I will truly miss the ice blue mint coolers! I wasn’t able to find them where I live so my son sent me 10 pounds at a time from his state. It is the only hard candy I enjoy and wish they were still available. I often wonder why stores didn’t stock the blue mints along with the other varieties? They were hard to find.

  16. Earl Elliott says:

I really loved the ice blue mint coolers so much, I would buy 2-4 pounds at a time. In fact, I still have some. However, if brachs can’t give their customers what they want, I will no longer buy any of brachs candies.

  17. Debbie Leppala says:

I want to say how very disappointed we are that you are no longer providing Ice Blue mint coolers. They have been our favorite for many years. They have also been my candy of choice when I quit smoking. They are still my husbands now while he is trying to quit smoking. He is not going to be happy at all. Please reconsider putting them back on the market.

  18. Susan Towner says:

I am so disappointed that Brach’s is not continuing to manufacture the Ice Blue Mint Coolers. I depend on this mint to get me through the day. Nothing else compares. Please reconsider. There are many of us who would be willing to pay more than the price of an average candy for this very special item.

  19. Elaine Downey says:

I always wondered why Brachs stopped putting the ice blues in those candy bins at the grocery stores. They were always sold out, and there were tons of other candies that no one wanted.
Not very good business sense to STOP the most popular item, is it? Doesn’t Ferrara want to be successful??? Guess not.
I don’t think I want to do business with a company that makes such bad business decisions.

  20. Michael says:

These have a very nostalgic feel to me since my grandparents used to give them to us when we were kids. Please resume production.

  21. Ed and Betsy says:

I’m truly disappointed in your decision to discontinue production of the Ice Blue mints, as they are a favorite of mine and have enjoyed them for a great many years. I would like to take this opportunity to make a request that you bring back the mints that have brought refreshing enjoyment to so many for so long. Thank You. Your once lifelong friend.

  22. Mike P says:

So disappointed to hear Brach\’s is discontinuing Ice Blue Mint Coolers. I have been buying them for years and since they have been hard to find in stores, I started ordering 7lb bags online over 7 years ago.

  23. Melissa says:

I am so upset that blue mints have been discontinued. They are the only candy I eat. I know I\’ve bought them for at least 30 years. When they stopped selling them in stores, I started ordering on line many years ago. Everyone always asks me for a blue mint. I think if Brach\’s put them back in the stores, they would find that they would be a best seller again. Bad marketing from many years ago has caused them to discontinue these gems. Sad, sad day. Please reconsider your decision.

  24. Elaine Downey says:

Last weekend I was cleaning out an old purse and found 3 ice blues. I made them last all day.
I also broke down and ordered the “other” little blue mint from your website. Disappointing to say the least. Each one tastes different, and none of them are even close to the ice blue flavor.
Wish there was some entrapaneuer out there who could afford to buy the rights/recipe for ice blues and get them back in our candy dishes.

  25. Bob B says:

My Dad always had a crystal container of Ice Blue Mints on the Kitchen Counter

I have followed in that tradition

It is a sin and crime to discontinue the best mint ever

  26. Sheila Keith says:

Why is it that when you make something that is really good and everyone really likes them and you sell alot of them, like the Ice Blue Mints you decide to discontinue making them, what’s up with that? You need to start making the Ice Blue Mints AGAIN, I have been buying them for years, they are the best mints that I have ever had. LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
