Brachs Candy, Candy Reviews

Brach’s Neapolitan Coconut Sundaes , a Valiant Effort

March 3, 2010 by
Brach's Neopolitan Sundaes are a hard to find candy that are one of the original Brach's candies...

We are sad to report that these delicious candies were permanently DISCONTINUED as of June 2012

Sharability: 8

Denture Danger: 7

Convenience: 9

Novelty: 5

Overall: 7

This one is for those who are coco for coconut. This sticky brick of candy incorporates the three colors and an attempt at the three classic sundae flavors, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. Striped brown, white, and pink this Sundae, though clever with the name, is not more than a colorful coconut block.

I’m not complaining about it by any means, but I don’t want you to be misled into thinking that this was some sort of triflavored candy when really it is quite monoflavored.

This is a conveniently individually wrapped candy that can be unwrapped and eaten during movies or business meetings, during classes or lying on the beach next to palm trees. Feel the tropical groove with the coconut move.

Neapolitan ice cream is the three flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) all lined up, aesthetically similar to this Brach’s candy. Neapolitans originated in Italy, which is why it puzzles me how this originally Italian idea seems so tropical with this coconut twist. Either way, it’s a prize possession for the coconut fanatics.

(My favorite Neapolitan type dessert is the freeze dried Neapolitan ice cream)

I have a bet going! Didn’t these originally have a stripe of carmel in them too?

these are in fact 3 flavors

  • Reply JoshuaX August 25, 2010 at 11:34 am

Suzanne: nope. No carmel. Always just the 3 flavors.

Sorry to disagree with you JoshuaX, but Suzanne is right. These did come woth a caramel stripe at one time. They were one of my faves and I would save the caramel bite for last.

They DID have a caramel layer at one time! I ate a lot of these when I was a kid and I remember that well. I was devastated when I couldn’t find them anymore with caramel, because they were my all time favorite candies. The caramel layer really made it. I wish they would make them like that again.

    Are these Gluten Free?

I too remember the caramel layer! Not the same without it.

I’m in the same boat. Can’t find them anywhere. Best candy ever! Glad I could prove I’m not crazy when I bring these up. Nobodysend to remember the carmel stripe but I DO.

I’ve been looking for those neapolitan candies with the caramel stripe too, but can’t find them anywhere. Please help!!!

Yes…yes…YES! The caramel layer! I agree that was the best part. But I’m afraid the four-layer variety must have gone to the candy graveyard, along with the Black Cows of my youth. Caramel suckers (like a Sugar Daddy), only covered in a layer of chocolate! :O) Ooh, and Toy Cookies. Animal Crackers just aren’t the same…

I had an ice cream today that reminded me of these candies. Totally agree with “author”/OP. Tasted like a caramel with coconut to me. And that’s exactly the flavors of the ice cream. Sea salted caramel and fresh coconut gelato. Brought back memories of grandmas place around Christmas.

It is so sad, that these are no longer available. It is a great memory from my childhood. Young people will never know what they are missing. Of all the ones you could of done without. If you ever bring them back for a short time, please let me know. I will buy a few pounds for myself. Sorry you let that one go.

My husband has been wanting these forever I can’t believe it was discontinued. It is as sad as the whole twinkie discontinued. I hope they come back.

I remember the astro pops and the sugar mamas (the chocolate covered sugar daddys)! I was starting to think old age was catching up to me. No one remembers the caramel layer. I do because when they stopped having the 4th layer I started eating a brachs caramel with it for the same taste. Truly a childhood fav that will surely be missed. One for the time capsule guys!!!

Oh yes, the caramel stripe was the best part, I also saved it for last. To bad they aren’t available anymore.

Discontinued, eh? Well, I guess I can stop looking for them then. I had a craving!

  • Reply Andres October 13, 2015 at 6:24 am

Please bring them back with or without the caramel. I had been looking for then for a long time because I would usually buy them by the pound every now and then. Today my son and I went to a few stores around town specifically just to find them. Then we decided to research. Please bring them back.

These neopolitan minis need to be brought back. These bring back memories of my youth. Dad used to buy them to give them out at Halloween. Dad was a coconut fan, now so am I. These were much chewyer and moist compared to the slabs they have these days. Please bring them back. I am sure I won’t be the only coconut fanatic that would enjoy the comback. Oh, the memories!!!

  • Reply Chris Critchfield March 31, 2016 at 4:06 am

Boooo. Please let me know, too, if they come back, even for a limited time. Sign me up for 10 pounds…please. Thanks

  • Reply Susan Barnes September 20, 2016 at 10:01 pm

    Yes they did!

  • Reply Brita August 4, 2017 at 1:35 pm

They took out the caramel, which eventually led to their demise. I stopped buying them and I know I’m not the only one. When you have a good thing, just leave it alone!

I miss the Brach candy shelves at grocery stores!!!

  • Reply Connie August 6, 2018 at 3:21 pm

They were delicious!!!!!!! Even if they bring them back along with other candies it probably would not taste the same. Please notify me if anyone hears of them returning the neopolitan coconut squares. Would love to get ahold of some Brach’s candy recipes!!!!!!!!!! Original recipes!!!!!!!!!!

  • Reply Amy July 11, 2019 at 9:03 am

I, too, come from a time when the caramel stripe of the Brach’s Neapolitan coconut square was THE HIGHLIGHT of any grocery shopping trip (ye gods, can you imagine what today’s moms would think of the old “buy by the pound” open-air candy bins these used to inhabit? germ central!). PLEASE BRING THEM BACK.

Remember, those of us who loved them so much as kids are now old farts with money – we will buy them up, trust me!

Please bring it back! Love it! Brings back such good memories as a kid. Please! 😭

Listen, THESE HAVE TO COMEBACK. I hope the manufacturer sees this! Growing up as a kid this WAS the candy to HAVE! Finding these were so rare , I’d see them at my aunt dell’s house in Anderson, Indiana and me and my little brother Jhamel (we call him Mel Mel) would absolutely LOSE IT!! Yeah we saw the blue mints but THESE WERE IT!! I have never missed a candy so much in my whole life and I’ve seen a lot come and go. Wonderball and the tiny chix gums and etc. Whoever vouched for these to be discontinued was wrong…please bring my favorite candy in the world back..
