KENTVILLE, N.S. – A Nova Scotia man has been placed on probation for a year, and was scolded by a provincial court judge, for stealing candy from children last Halloween.

Michael Csernyik, 18, of Greenwich, had already pleaded guilty to stealing candy kisses and other goodies from three kids and trying to steal treats from another.

Csernyik turned 18 the day of the offences and otherwise would have faced trial in youth court, where sentences are generally less severe.

The charges included three of theft, one of assault, one of wearing a mask while committing an offense and one of attempted theft.

The three theft counts were originally robbery charges.

Crown attorney Tom MacEwan asked for eight months’ probation, and defence lawyer Bernard Conway asked that it be part of a conditional discharge.

IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT CRIME DOESN’T PAY…

In search of a cheap cigar…um, bubble gum cigar

Inflation is catching up with the candy industry and gone are the days of a good five cent cigar – bubble gum cigar that is

We just got our latest shipment of the original El Bubble Bubble Gum Cigar and the new suggested retail is $.25 which is a far cry from the cost of a contraband Cuban cigar but…

Ironically, El Bubble Bubble Gum Cigars created controversy when first introduced in 1949 as they were the first bubble gum to “crash” through the $.05 retail barrier.

Regardless, it is still a classic Americana candy and comes in three flavors bearing the following logos:

Gold Dragon (Banana Flavored)
El Bubble (Mint Flavored)
Pink Owl (Fruit Flavored)
