Beer Nuts were created by Russel Shirl, founder of the now defunct Caramel Crisp Shop although the exact date of creation is not known, they were given the formal name of Beer Nuts in 1953 and their now famous name derived from the fact that these salty snacks were sold to local liquor stores in Illinois who found the combination a perfect match for beer! Indeed they are!
