In 1958, the Swedish confectionery manufacturer, Malaco, decided to expand its business by exporting their best selling products to North America which included Liquorices Allsorts, Ribbons and lace candy.

Business grew on a regular basis and in the early 1970's, Swedish Fish and Swedish Berries were developed exclusively for the North American market.

Although the original candies were made in Sweden, they are now made in both Sweden and Canada.
