Red Hot Dollars were introduced by Heide Candy Company in 1926 and were oval pieces of gum emblazoned with the classic dollar sign.

The name, however, has nothing to do with flavor as it was derived from a slang expression that means something new, innovative or popular

The original flavor was Raspberry and it wasn't until the 1940's that the name was changed to Red Raspberry Dollars to reflect the flavor of the candy
