Chunky is one of the older American candy bars and was first introduced in the late 1930's by Philip Silvershein

Mr. Silvershein was looking for a suitable name for a candy bar that he created that was chock full of cashews, chocolate, raisins and nuts

Lore has it that the original shape of the candy bar was a pyramid but this led to packaging difficulties and the creator decided to simply cut of the top hence the square shape that the candy comes in now

Mr. Silvershein had a close relationship with the Wrigley Gum Company and the first Chunky bars were distributed alongside the many varieties of Wrigley's gum

Although the candy is dense and filled with a multitude ingredients, the name Chunky derived from the nickname of his granddaughter

Please note that the current formula does not contains cashews and is an amalgamtion of milk chocolate, peanuts and raisins
